About Dave Ownbey

I fell in love with music and drumming when I was thirteen. It wasn't that I just wanted to play drums, I had to. Some of my various drum instructors claimed that I was obsessed with practicing. I prefer the word driven. I love feeling drums, looking at drums, the aroma of the shell when you change a head, the wood chips all over the drum riser, the thunder of the kick drum through the monitors, the sweet crack of a great snare drum, that magical energy exchange with the audience...

BAR FLY BLUES BAND	May 23 2009 4:33 PM Hey Man... Thanx for the ritious add... If you eva need some spare change wackin them tubs, you jus' gimme a heads up an I'll put ya on a gig... The pay is good! Bout $35 a nite (minus my extra cut, the agent fee, union dues, and bar tab)... We travel inna 1972 Econoline Van that needs a muffler, tires, drive train, and windshield wipers... so I'd be nice if you could kick in a little dough towards that stuff.. If you wanna get in on our next Las Vegas gig, the pay is $30 because they throw inna room for all of us (I mean all in one room)...but it's a big room by New Mexico standards with 3 beds! I also know a place called the Cats Meow where they got ten cent tacos!...Anyways...keep in touch and stay ritious!

I remember fondly the time we followed the PLASMATICS into THE KEYSTONE Palo Alto, CA. the next night.... What a messy stage those people leave behind! There were car parts, pieces of instruments, shredded clothing, and lots of various and sundry gels, pastes, creams and such things that made me queazy! The whole scene reminded me of my motel room usually.....
