Minneapolis based Luther the Devil is rooted in the Mississippi Hill Country and Delta blues traditions, but, also mixes in elements of punk and rockabilly to create their own unique sound. Since 2006, LTD has been bringing their music to the masses, playing everywhere from cramped corner bars to festivals. Defined by their riff-based grooves, LTDs smoky licks and pulsing rhythms are helping characterize the genre of punk-blues. Fronting the band and on guitar is Dave Levine. The tattooed and toothless Levine is just as likely to be found jamming with other blues players as he is to be nursing a bottle of Beam. His shouts and hollers are a throw back to depression style vocals, as is his bottleneck guitar work. Grant Wibben adds the low end on upright bass and Eric Hanson rounds out the rhythm section on drums. Javier Matos plays blues harp and you'll even hear him sing a song or two.
Great sound! Wish I could be there at Palmer's tomorrow night...we won't be there until Sunday May 24 when we play with Boom Boom Belam and Cadillac vs Cornbread. (we are touring - hometown:Boston MA)
Really wish we could catch your show....some nasty blues being played in MN !
One of my most played albums this last year after seeing Luther The Devil at the Deep Blues Festival last summer, can't recommend it enough...waiting for the next one, hope it's available at the next DBF in july !!..see you there again..Dave
I heard Dylan do a version of "Trouble no More" on the radio today and I thought,"Where have I heard that before - was it the Allman Bros?" No it was Luther the Devil!
