GeneralLife. Particularly writing and teaching as a subset thereof. Travel is fun too. Camping. Good beer. Lakes. Road trips. Good food in the big city. Theater and the art museum. That sort of thing. My Golden Lab -- name's Bud, because that's the best damned name ever for a dawg!
MusicI'm about the biggest Parrothead on the planet. Other than that, I try to listen without prejudice. My WMP might jump from Metallica to Madonna, from Sufjan Stevens to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, from Merle Haggard to Tupac.
MoviesYes.
TelevisionVery little time for it. Wish I had time for more. Some great stuff out there. Thank God for DVDs and Netflix.
BooksAbsolutely. I'll give ANY book 30 pages. If it's not love by then, it's out. Life's too short. That said, I own more books than I could possibly read in my lifetime. Minimum daily read is one poem. I usually have at least three books going at once, plus an audiobook in the vehicle. (Equal chance they'll be fiction or nonfic.)

Happy December!

As a winter present for everyone, I'm offering a free novella on my website.

A Happily Ever After of Her Own

Melinda Lightfoot, a preschool teacher with an unusual ability to flit in and out of fairy tales, never thought she would get into trouble...

...until the Fairy Tale Police arrest her while she is in Beauty and the Beast. They offer her a deal: Find Beauty, who left the story when Melinda trespassed into it, or be charged with the ultimate crime -- Fairy Tale Killer. If that's not bad enough the Beast tags along in search of his true love, and Melinda starts falling for the fairy tale prince. She must choose between doing the right thing and having her own happily ever after.

Enjoy and happy holidays! :)

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!

There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.

Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."

And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."

Chicks Dig Scars - Chapter One

Chicks dig scars, everyone knows that, right? Meet Severence DeSnappio, a man who creates ‘fake’ injuries for desperate clients. He’ll get you a stab wound, shot gun blast, snowboarding injury - but a bite from a great white shark?

S
et in Miami, Chicks Dig scars is a lyrical, Lynchian mix of dream logic and hard boiled detection.

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:

“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.”
—Famous Monsters of Filmland

“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes
