  • Bio

David Box currently lives in Austin, Texas. Born and raised in Southern California, his passion for music started at a very young age with the piano, then drum set, and finally saxophone. After going to college for three years in Southern California he received an offer to study with the world-renowned classical saxophonist Harvey Pittel at the University of Texas at Austin. Due to a scholarship and the reputation of the institution Mr. Box knew he would receive a versatile education in jazz and classical saxophone while participating in a thriving art community. Since his move to Austin, Texas in the summer of 1998 David has won the Riverside Concerto competition in California, performed the A. Glazounov Concerto with orchestra, recorded on eight albums, two commercials, and twelve movies. He has performed and studied with some of the countries leading artists including Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra backing Harry Connick, and numerous Austin based artists like Malford Milligan, Dennis Quaid, The 47 Indians, La Tribu, Rock Stardom, Three Penny Opera and countless others. Mr. Box was a featured musician and on set musical supervisor for the 2003 Disney movie release "The Alamo", has played for numerous plays and musicals including years of support for Austin's Zilker Hillside Theater, and organizes and performs with his own jazz or classical groups. His desire to communicate emotions about his life and current affairs through his art has been winning over audiences throughout the world. David's decision to settle back in Los Angeles during the summer of 2003 was prompted by a job he accepted at La Sierra University as Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies. While holding this position his continued success within the world of film music was being helped by his new environment. With the growth of his production company, Colburn Bay Productions, he continued to gain experience and grow in the film industry as a composer. In January 2006 Film Score Magazine included David on their Hot Sheet for his score to the independent film "The Devil Wears Spurs". He was ranked next to notable film composers in this issue like James Newton Howard for "King Kong", Michael Giaccino for "Mission Impossible III and The Incredibles." February 2005 marked the release of his first jazz album titled "Transformation". It features all original compositions with David playing all four saxophones throughout the album. You can also listen to Austin based jazz musicians Rich Harney (Piano), Mike Porter (bass), Mike Koenning (drums) and special guest Ron Stout (trumpet) on this release. This exciting new release helped document the talents of this young artist. David returned to Austin, T.X. during May, 2008 after touring the world. His stops included Italy, France, England, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Hawaiian Islands, Fiji, American Somoa, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Oman, Greece, Venezuala, Cuba, Mexico, continental United States of American and countless other stops in those regions. Upon his return he has decided to work on the completion of his newly commissioned Symphony No. 1 and will finish his first classical album featuring 7 new works for saxophone by other composers who are his close friends. They include Rob Deemer, Brad Johnston, Kyle Kindred, and John Hartmann. Four of these works will premiere March 14th, 2009 at the Pflugerville Fine Arts Center. Currently Mr. Box has just finished a score for a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, band works for local Round Rock ISD school Cedar Valley Middle School, and many other projects and outreach events. This looks to be an exciting year for music so keep posted at www.davidboxmusic.com, facebook.com or myspace.com. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .."Nightmare" from The Devil Wears Spurs...... .. .. .. .. .. .."Shoot-Out Part 1" from The Devil Wears Spurs...... .. .. .. .. ..
