hey so i was at the show last night at Spaceland..you guys really paced the performance well...nice slow bluesy guitar opening, followed by well crafted songs, and ending the set with a "BIG FINISH"!!!
the personnel has changed since i last saw you perform...i purchased a copy of Carnivore, the last time i saw you play..i'm guessing that was about a year ago...so yeah … it’s been awhile.
it turns out that although the name has changed, the "groove" remains intact..
your performance was professional and "understandable"...it wasn't so LOUD as to be incomprehensible...the other bands, Deer Tick and The Moondoggies were good!!!..but i think they were too loud..Probably not their fault...it was hard to understand what they were singing about..you'd have to already know their lyrics to fully appreciate their performance...which is too bad, cuz i'm sure those bands would like to reach people that are not already "in-the-know"...
still, Deer Tick and The Moondoggies are entertaining...if they come back around again, i think i'm gonna go see them...
back to Dawes...
so what's up with the drummer...dude does not look old enough to be playing in clubs that sell alcohol...lol..but he has the chops!!!!!..i especially enjoyed the drum breaks during your outgoing number..Nicely done!!
and as i recall, when i last saw "Simon Dawes" i was impressed by the bass lines...i still am!..they are almost songs onto themselves...very melodic..straight up groovin…I’d like to hear Wylie let loose and do a lil base solo during one of your songs...ha...
the addition of keys is a nice touch...i don't know why, but the keys remind me of music from the 1970's...stuff from Player, Ambrosia, The Allman Brothers...hey...i just realized that Deer Tick reminds me of the Allman Brothers!!!!..they should do a cover of Midnight Rider
um..so Taylor..i'm guessing that you are a closeted guitar shred meister...
I bet that when no one is looking, you play John Petrucci, Steve Vai or Eric Johnson solos...lol
:)
well done last night sir..
hey you guys should post more clips of your live shows online...although the songs you have posted on myspace are good, Dawes is a LIVE band first and a studio band second..kinda like the David Matthew's Band...
:)
oh yeah...good job singing last night..thanks for singing to us, instead of YELLING at us...
oh and i see that you guys are playing in Tennessee this month...i pity you!!!..
my job requires that i spend time in Tennessee..and you guys picked a BAD time to go...
OH MY GOD!!!
the heat and humidity is unbearable in Tennessee during the summer...
Just wanted to say hi to you guys. Listening to your album right now and it is awesome! You guys are great. I would love to go to your concert out in LA next month but my ride is getting tried of driving me out there. But I will see.
Oh man! I just saw that you guys are rockin in Austin in July! You have no idea how excited we are to see this. I brought some friends to see you at SXSW and they were blown away. It would be safe to say we are all still obsessed with your album, and cannot wait till July! See you then boys!!
