Blessed with both a distinctive voice and a magnetic down-home Texas personality, Dawn McCoy is one of the most promising artists to come down the pike in quite some time. Drawing on the singers she idolized as a young girl (Connie Smith, Dolly Parton, Karen Carpenter, Jessi Colter) and the best her native Lone Star State has offered up (Tanya Tucker, Dixie Chicks), what Dawn brings to the table of country music is like a good old classic southern recipe with a tasty new twist.
Dawn left her hometown of Dallas for Los Angeles, where she became the co-lead singer of a California country five-piece named Hawkeye. Hawkeye routinely played some of L.A.'s most exclusive venues like The Roxy, The Mint, and Hotel Café, and the band quickly found themselves among the elite of the city's flourishing country community. During this time, she earned legions of fans who were drawn to her warm voice and even warmer personality -- as well as to the home-baked treats she was known to serve up at their shows.
After Hawkeye disbanded in 2004, Dawn relocated to Nashville, where she wrote and recorded her debut solo album "Sweet Time", just released. Expect more Dawn McCoy shows soon, and expect her to be bringing along samples from her kitchen to share as well. There's little doubt that the results of both will be as fresh and sweet as anything you've ever tasted...
