biography
2008 marked the birth of a new rock sound: Dejafuse. A year later the self titled debut album arrives bursting with catchy, energetic poprock with balls. Lead singer Nienke de Jong (ex-Autumn frontwoman & songwriter) and guitarist Arno Krabman (producer & session musician) took the first steps towards the making of the Netherlands based band with international appeal.
Pure, honest music that isn't over thought out, that was the mindset for this new band of Krabman and de Jong's. In their daily work as producers and songwriters for artists and bands of all kinds, they managed to distill the exact ingredients for a catchy songs with an immense sound, without falling into standard patterns. De Jong: “The pureness that we wanted in our sound seemed to manifest itself simply by going with our intuition throughout the writing process. Not thought, but action. We kept writing, every single day, inspiration or no inspiration. We just kept on dishing out songs as if the studio were a cookie factory." The two decided to demo all the ideas for songs in a single take and put it in the vault. No picking apart, no tweaking, but pure raw and honest spur of the moment inspiration for music, melodies and lyrics. Doing so, the songs were captured and locked away, all to become eligible tracks for the debut album.
The duo thought "big", took their time and continuously took steps towards finding the right sound, the right songs and the right musicians to complete Dejafuse. Stefan Kemp (Wackmobil, The Stranglers Club), Bas van Dreunen (Nemesis, TAPE) and Ludwig Witt (Spiritual Beggars, Firebird) complimented the line-up and brought Dejafuse to the next level. There was plenty of room in the group for an open dialog and trust in each other to be assured that the music was in the hands of the right musicians. Every band member had ‘carte blanche' regarding creative input in the songs, giving the whole creative process an extra boost.
Ludwig Witt worked his magic on the album, unrolling an immense and warm carpet of drum sounds that would be the perfect bedding for the songs. The fact that he lives in Sweden makes him a somewhat unavailable candidate for live shows in the Netherlands. Therefore Dejafuse is backed by two talented drummers: Mats van der Valk of Autumn and Wieger Jan Scheper of Greyline. Witt's connection with the band however was certainly not ended with his last recordings for the album, as he is to be found behind the drums during international shows and recordings. His personality and style merge seamlessly with the rest of the band resulting in an invaluable contribution to the sound.
2009 is the year that Dejafuse in their current form set camp in Graveland Studio to record the debut album. In all their modesty, the band had only one actual goal: to create a timeless album, that could easily stand it's ground amongst songs and productions of international artists. In the hands of guitarist en producer Arno Krabman (Graveland Studio) the album obtained a warm, broad, powerful yet clear sound in line with classic timeless rock productions that set the bar today. The result is an album with no less than 12 addictive tracks that stand strong without additional digital bells and whistles on any given stage. Dejafuse stands for a dynamic mix of raw, in-your-face grooverock carried by edgy yet sensual singer.
On June 26th Dejafuse is set to be released by Reference Records/Rough Trade. The release will be supported by live dates opening for prominent rock acts like Y & T and more. Moreover, the band is to be found in the club- as well as festival curcuits.
