Hailing from Montreal, Derelict incorporates the brutal and progressive elements of the Quebec metal scene with listenable structures and melody, resulting in an unforgiving yet accessible package. The band’s trademark sound has led to comparisons with bands such as Death, Strapping Young Lad, and Martyr.

May 2009 sees the release of Derelict’s national debut, Unspoken Words, through Kerosene Media/Year of the Sun Records. "We're really proud of Unspoken Words and it's a great feeling to know that there is a label that believes in the music as much as we do," says vocalist Eric Burnet. "Our goal has always been to combine far-ranging elements of metal and music in general, and we feel that with this album we've gotten much better at doing that. We'll hit you with some brutal death metal, but infused with catchy melodies surrounded by progressive chaos and completely unexpected influences. I think our sound has diverse enough elements to appeal to fans of Gojira, Cryptopsy or even old-school fans of Carcass. There's something here for every metal fan and that's something that's very important to us."

With the help of two national tours, constant treks through Quebec and Ontario, and support for major acts such as Ion Dissonance (Century Media), Threat Signal (Nuclear Blast), and The Agonist (Century Media), the band has covered most of Canada, and is quickly making itself known as a force to be reckoned with.

Nous vous attaquons avec du death métal brutal, mais infusé de mélodies accrocheuses entourées de chaos progressif et d’influences inattendues. Je crois que notre musique englobe assez d’éléments pour plaire aux fans de Gojira, de Cryptopsy, et même de fans old-school de Carcass. Nous voulons nous assurer d’offrir quelque chose pour tous les amateurs de métal. »

Avec l’aide de tournées nationales, de mini voyages continuels au Québec et en Ontario, et de spectacles en support de groupes reconnus tels Ion Dissonance (Century Media), Threat Signal (Nuclear Blast), et The Agonist (Century Media), Derelict a couvert la majorité du Canada et se fait rapidement remarquer comme une force dynamique et persévérante.
