We just posted ten tracks from our new album, "The Awesome Depression". We'll have the finished CDs done soon, and we're planing a Venice Beach CD release party for this summer. Details to come!!!
Big thanks to all who came out for our Memorial Day weekend tour of California!!! It was a BLAST. Awesome crowds, especially in SLO! We can't wait to come back - looks like we will over Labor Day... Speaking of tours, here a sweet quote from a write-up we got on our last trip through Vegas:
"A tongue-in-cheek, honky-tonk tinged power trio that hoists a brew to everything from Hank Williams' earthy country to hormonal '80s hair metal, this bunch is almost as fun as that one Fourth of July where Uncle Kenny passed out on the neighbors' lawn" (Jason Bracelin, Las Vegas Review-Journal)."
We couldn't have said it better!!!... After months of hitting the road in support of The Gallery, we're prepping a new batch of DK. Our new friend Jeff Peters (of notable work with The Beach Boys and Flight of the Conchords) helped produce the new tunes, with the assistance of Nels Jensen (he used to camp at Neverland Ranch). All should be done this summer. Release party/jam is already in planning!!!!
DEVASTATING KARATE formed in the summer of 2005, and is fronted by guitarist Rat Ratliff with Zach Lewis on drums and Charles Pasarell playing bass. Described as “honky-tonk, punk-rock drinking music” (Eric and Robert, KXLU, Los Angeles), Devastating Karate released a self-titled album later that same year, followed by a Southwest tour in the spring of 2006. The 2007 release of their sophomore effort, Santa Monica Lawn Bowling Park (EP), was supported by two West Coast tours and regular performances in the Los Angeles area. After the 2008 release of The Gallery (LP), DK produced their first music video and hit the road for multiple tours and festivals throughout the Southwest.
Influenced by groups ranging from Wilco and Kings of Leon, to Devo, Ween and The Pixies, Devastating Karate’s “power, energy and sense of humor equip them with a timeless quality that will probably transcend trends and fads” (Terrance Lam, GM, Downtown Records). Compared to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Supersuckers and classified as “Desert Americana Boogie” by Duncan Hudson (Music Director, KXCI, Tucson), Devastating Karate currently receives airplay in several markets including Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Tucson, San Antonio, Dayton, Las Cruces, Aspen, Vail, Salida and Breckenridge... Download the shit, and spread the word!!!
