RIP Pirate Pirate after our show in Santa Monica...of course right by the ocean. You'll live forever in our hearts.
A very beloved friend of ours, Anthony Liaw aka Pirate, tragically passed away last Saturday from a free diving accident.
He was just 28 years old, a strong, angelic, caring, fun loving beautiful soul...
He graduated from CSULB with a degree in Marine Biology and He worked as a Marine Biologist for California Department of Fish & Game, and was a professional diver... It still makes no sense to us how this could happen... (his obituary can be found at

Dig Jelly at the Galaxy Theater
Dig Jelly has an infectious groove, hard hitting, yet not overbearing. Vocalist Rayko possesses a commanding stage presence and a take-charge presence on stage. This is important, I believe, especially in a band fronted by a female. Winning over a crowd presents a tougher challenge, and Rayko definitely delivered.
Her vocals are a bit different, in that they aren't the cliché radio-friendly variety. However, it definitely meshes well with the bands unique style. Dig Jelly's music is rather hard to define, think of Red Hot Chili Peppers funk, with a pop appeal, and a dash of metal thrown in. Every song was original, yet familiar sounding. The songs are a tad complex, but yet never pretentious. The rhythm section of Joey Felix and bassist Rain Balen was quite impressive. They were the most proficient 1-2 tandem I have heard in quite some time. Felix, especially, was intense. The band had very good stage presence, and interacted well. Though the crowd in attendance was sparse, this didn't affect Dig Jelly's performance Ellsbeth/Dig Jelly whatsoever. The bands professionalism is a rarity, nowadays, and they make for a act I am eagerly awaiting to see again.

About Dig Jelly
Dig Jelly is a Los Angeles
based female fronted high - energy modern rock band unlike anyone, versatile
yet grounded in it’s signature sound.
Dig Jelly has released a self-titled
EP “Dig Jelly” and two full length/self produced CDs “For Your
Inner Angry Child” (3 of it’s tracks engineered by Richard Kaplan
- Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit) and “ParaNoize” which independently
sold well over 1000 copies a couple weeks following the release date.
Dig Jelly’s mind blowing
live show is filled with raw energy and sex appeal and it demonstrates
the band’s unmistakable chemistry and musicianship. They have an “in
your face” attitude and impressive showmanship on stage that is well
received.
Dig Jelly has done National
Tours opening for Veruca Salt, and The Lovemakers of Interscope. Show
after show has proven to be a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Rayko - Vocals: Prior to forming
Dig Jelly, Rayko released two solo CDs “Purple Shoes” and “Crave”,
and developed a very strong fan base throughout California and Japan.
Her CDs featured players such as Toshi Yanagi (Jimmy Kimmel show), Mark
Browne (Paula Cole, Taylor Dayne), Pete Maloney (Dishwalla), Matt Hockings
(Edgar Winter), and Dorian Crozier (Rembrants). Tracks such as “Jaded”
“Broken Trust” and “In Your House” were featured on MTV’s
“Undressed”, “Surf Girls” and verious X-treme sports DVDs ,
and films such as “Yellow Girls” and “St. Andrew’s Girls”.
Robby Lochner - Guitars: After
playing for the nationally syndicated radio station band “Z/Rock Killing
Crew”, Robby played guitar for Rob Halford (Judas Priest) on the “War
of Words Tour” for his band “Fight”. Robby has worked with three
number one hit songwriters Curt Cuomo (Kiss, Eddie Money), Jake Hooker
(Joan Jett) and Eddie Money. He has also played with Spencer Davis,
Carmine Appice, and Alex Ligertwood (Carlos Santana). He released two
solo CDs that featured musicians such as Barry Sparks (Ted Nugent, Yngwie
Malmsteen, UFO), Neil Turbin (Anthrax), Gunter Fliszar (Bruce Dickensen,
Decca Tree) and Javy Bojorquez (Joan Sebastian).
Dig Jelly is supported by strong
rhythm section created by Rain Balen (Bass) and Joey Felix (Drums).
Felix, Balen and Lochner are all natives of Tucson Arizona. Felix, the
original member of Dig Jelly helped recruit Balen and Lochner to join
the band.
The strong support they get
from their home state has helped the songs, “Communication” and
“Faka Laka Rocksta” from their latest release “ParaNoize”, get
added to high rotations on 98 KUPD and climb to the “top 25 most played”
on KWSS 106.7.
Dig Jelly has been consistently
entertaining packed crowds throughout California and Arizona.
In 2007 Dig Jelly had built
two full on protool recording/rehearsal studios both in Los Angeles
and Orange County where they continue to record their new material.
Dig Jelly is the crossroads of 4 abused hopeless dreamers. They are your life in a different dimension. Dig Jelly is your biggest fan, the shadows that lurk in your private thoughts. They are promoters of your humanity and the Windex to your personal reflection. Dig Jelly doesn't agree with everything you do or believe in but they agree with your freedom to do and believe.
Dig Jelly only expresses what you have already felt or will feel someday. They did not invent anything they just describe and express the same world that so many have lived in.
To hate Dig Jelly is to turn your back on yourself and the embodiments of existence. It is the same as shunning your very soul. Dig Jelly would never dream of telling you what to do or how to think. Dig Jelly only wishes for you to love yourself. Dig Jelly loves you.
