Dino Miranda-2009 MMA(MOZAMBICAN MUSIC AWARDS)WINNER. Mozambican-born and Cape town-based vocalist, guitarist, composer and arranger graduated from the University of Cape Town with a degree in music (Jazz Studies ) in 2004. He started his career in Mozambique playing with his own rock band in 1996 and then moved on to play as a professional guitarist with Chico Antonio in 1998.
Two years later he moved to Johannesburg, South Africa to study music at the Fuba School of Music and a year later moved to Cape Town to start his studies at University. It was in 2002 when he started his own solo project in Cape Town and started making his rounds at festivals such as the ObzFest in 2004 & 2006, the Penguin Festival in 2006, the Cape Town Jazzathon Festival in 2007, the Verao Amarelo festival in Maputo, Mozambique in 2007, the Suidoosterfees TrueLove Jazz Lounge in 2008 and entertained jazz fans at the grandest gathering in Africa, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with the Bongani Sotshononda Project in 2008.
His ear-catching, heart-melting single Fatal has infected Portugal as well as Cape Town airwaves and has become one of the most played songs and videos on all Mozambican radio and television stations.
Besides having his own solo project, Dino Miranda has collaborated with a number of artists such as Max Vidima, Jeff Maluleke, Chris Hinze and Stewart Sukuma. You wouldn’t be surprised to find that he is the creative genius behind tracks like Jeff Maluleke’s “Teka’’ and Max Vidima’s “Mai va rossi’’ which he co-wrote. He also shows his impressive guitar skills on Stewart Sukuma’s “Mahuta”, Gcobani’s latest album “No taxi” as well as demonstrating the fusion of traditional Mozambican and contemporary music when collaborating with Grant Mclachlan for the music of the TV series “Meet the jackals’’ – on which he provides both vocals and guitar.
Dino Miranda has also been guitarist and backing vocalist for the Cuba Groove Band (with whom he traveled to Dubai in 2002) and artists such as Teba, Azania, Jeff Maluleke and others. He also toured throughout South Africa backing reggae artists from Jamaica and the UK such as Peter Spencer, Starkey Banton, Prince Malachi and Dawit Menalik Tafari in 2007.

I'm great! Hanging out in Witvlei in Namibia with a bunch of cute kids. We are past halfway with the promised movie... I can't wait for you all to see it.
We are so proud of this project because the children's involvement is great: we thought 10 days would not be enough to do everything, but so far we have a script written by the children themselves - of course supervised by the creative film team, which consists of 2 from the USA and myself (Namibian).
Its a great script and we have two shooting days left. Please check out the children of our villages website for photo's of the process:
We also need more donations to help us film a very important scene in the movie - which we hope to film in the Namib desert... its pretty important especially for the children... If we get enough funds we hope to take more than 5 kids with. For them it will be the first time visiting the Namib desert... pretty amazing considering this is their country and still so many haven't seen the beautiful desert! You can help them get there, should their film and at the same time experience something magical.
Please donate... Any amount will be helpful. ANY! Please ask your friends to help! We love the support you've given us so far... Please check out the happy faces of the kids on our website. For them this whole workshop was a great learning experience and a process that kept them busy and off the streets for the holidays.
Children of OUr Villages is in need of your support (the charity i work for)... In December we will be working on a movie by orphans at the Witvlei Orphange. And also if we have enuf funds we hope to take the children on a weekend holiday to coast - Namibia - as they have never been anywhere outside their home town, Witvlei.
Please visit the website and donate if you can. Any amount will be helpful... Please tell your friends too
