In November 1998, four musicians from a progressive/sinfonic rock band called “Gray-Out”, that had ended in 1997, got together to discuss the foundation of a new band. Quickly Pedro Marques (synthesizers), Mário Rodrigues (synthesizers), Daniel Carvalho (guitar) and André Marques (drums) form Dispatch Note.
They started composing but it was urgent to get a voice and, specially a bass player.
It’s in 1999, when they were composing and performing a soundtrack for a play, that they met among the actresses Maria Nogueira (bass), that in a flash joined the band. On that same time, they met Joana Pedro (vocals), that after being present at the play, showed her self interested in becoming their vocalist.
But soon the band suffered the first losts, stepping out of the group Maria Nogueira, and, shortly after, Daniel Carvalho. Joana Pedro besides singing starts playing bass, but these wouldn’t be the final changes. Three new musicians would join the band: Bruno Silva and Francisco Silva (guitars) and Paulo Mouta (bass).
It is with these seven elements that the band keeps with it’s work, until 2000, when Paulo Mouta abandons the band, leaving the bass again in Joana Pedro’s hands.
In 2001 new changes occur. Francisco Silva leaves, being substituted by João Simões (guitar), and Joana Pedro also abandons the group leaving two empty places: the vocals and the bass.
In the end of that same year a new vocalist takes place, Lavínia Roseiro, and after a while Raul Costa (bass) also joins the band.
It is then, when Dispatch Note had a new and stable formation, that a terrible accident shook the very foundations of the band. In May 2002, Pedro Marques passed away, which made them think if they should continue or not.
It’s only in 2003 that they take back their activities, having suffered their final change, when Raul Costa is substituted by Domingos Marcelino.
For now, one of the guitar players, Bruno Silva, is currently in Denmark and so, it is with five members that Dispatch Note carry on their work.
After several concerts during this passed years, the band is about to record their debut album anytime soon...
