DJ Jay-C has been a driving force in urban music culture in Maine since 1994. Currently you can check him out at Bubba's Sulky Lounge in Portland Maine on Saturday, June 6th 2009. He was a resident DJ at the Moon Nightclub along with DJ Tish and DJ Dale "Da Dred" Dorsett from 1995-1997. This club was considered to be the premier hip hop/reggae club at the time. DJ Jay-C took his music to the Asylum nightclub in Portland to become the resident Friday night DJ at that club during their grand opening Summer. Following this gig, Jay-C took residency at the Industry nightclub in Portland to play to a primarily 18+ audience. Jay-C brought a different attitude, bringing the Hip Hop party flavor to that audience. While maintaining his club residency Jay-C was responsible in launching websites for the company BroadcastAmerica.com. He forged partnerships with Outkast, DJ Whoo Kid, and his site featured webcasts from groups such as The Wu Tang Clan, Talib Kweli, and Mos Def. Jay-C was also a part of Radio Station RED HOT 95 WRED for over two years. Alongside Buzz Bradley, Lisa G, Zach Thomas, DJ Jon, and Big Lee, the station became the first hip hop station in Maine. Jay-C hosted such shows as The RedHot 95 Hip Hop Dance Jam, The High Five at Five, The Open Request Line with Jay-C, and was the host/mixer on the Red Hot Reggae Jam. Jay-C's shows featured his unparalled wit, and connection to what is happening in the hip hop world. Currently Jay-C is throwing bi-monthly events at Portland's Funkiest Bar Bubba's Sulky Lounge.
