Over the past few years, DJ Scientist has become an important figure in the German Hip-Hop and Electronic scene. Running the international label Equinox Records and publishing a magazine (DEAD Magazine), he still takes his time to dj at clubs, release mixes, expand his record collection and, last but not least, produce music.

Starting his DJ-career in 1995 and releasing several mixtapes to spread his name in his home town of Munich, he put out his first record in 2001 – a dj tool called Mad Science Breaks. One year later the dark and melancholic Misantropolis EP, mainly produced by him, was the first release on Audiac. Since then, Scientist put his main effort into his label Equinox Records, which now has its headquarters in Berlin. In 2005 he produced 3 tracks for the critically acclaimed “Welcome to the Neo Golden Age – A Sound Exposure Vol.1” Compilation. Being part of the Equinox 10inch Series, his 4 track “Journey Goodbye EP” (2006) contained the outstanding “Atarius” as well as the soulful and bluesy “Autumn Leaves”. Since late 2007 DJ Scientist is mainly producing and recording music with rapper/multi-instrumentalist/singer Ceschi (from New Haven/Connecticut). Releases so far are the singles “Same Old Love Song” (2009, with 2Mex, Awol One & Myka Nyne) and “Count On It / Bad Jokes” (2008). The first album with Ceschi, “The One Man Band Broke Up”, will be released in june 2010.

Apart from his production work, DJ Scientist has performed and shared stages with artists such as Sage Francis, The Pharcyde, Noah23, M.I.A., DJ Faust & DJ Shortee, Sole & The Skyrider Band, Egyptian Lover, Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop, DiViNCi, Boca45, Thesis Sahib, Mirko Machine, Busy Bee, and many others.

Godly Grooves II - More German Xian Rare Grooves in the Mix

The 2nd and final part of the Godly Grooves mix series and possibly the most incredible and bizarre rare groove mix to come of Germany ever! DJ Scientist and Arok unearthed a big bunch of groovy religious records and put together a 60-minute mix that ranges from obscure funk with christian lyrics (all of them sung in German!) to fusion jazz rock to psychedelic (xian) Krautrock. Most of the featured songs were recorded by completely unknown bands out of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and released on small private labels in the 70s. Even if this might sound a bit too nerdy to some, “Godly Grooves II” definetely is THE perfect Xmas present for people who already enjoyed mixes like Marc Hype & Katmando’s “Funkvergnügen” or DJ Format and Mr. Thing’s “Holy Shit”. Limited Edition 100 copies only!

CESCHI - SAME OLD LOVE SONG

"Same Old Love Song", the A side of Ceschi and DJ Scientist's 12" picture disc is an upbeat folk tinged hip hop piece which owes as much to OD's Beneath The Surface compilation as it does to Too Short's Freaky Tales. On this track, Ceschi has recruited LA Underground legends 2Mex and Awol One to join in on tackling the always relevant issue of women and love or lack there of. The light hearted nature of these three distinctive emcees' lyrics blend perfectly with Scientist's throbbing drums, folk guitars and female vocal samples.

On the B-Side we hear Ceschi team up with one of his hip hop idols and tour mates, Freestyle Fellowship founder, Myka 9 on the track "Objects Are Falling". Between the trumpet spikes, an infectiously bouncy beat, and a space age melodic chorus lay 3 hard hitting verses covering the topics of religious and political control, communal unity and human symmetry.

While these may be two of Ceschi's most straight forward hip hop tracks to date, he proves that he can style and flow with the best of the west. With this picture disc, the mostly instrumental, Equinox Records may have released one of the strongest underground hip hop singles to come out in years.
