Electric City
Everything, Everywhere, All the Time

For those that don't know, MC Mighty Flipside esq and DJ Skipmode make up the crew Electric City. A staple in the Philadelphia hip-hop scene, This is Electric City's first full-length studio offering - and it gets the job done right. Here's what the good folks at ropeadope.com had to say: "File Under: Philly underground hip-hop. Electric City brings it back to the basics, moving forward all the while. The duo consisting of DJ Skipmode's captivating turntablism and beat-making, paired with the energetic lyricism of Mighty FlipSide Esq., reintroduces the almost forgotten concept of MC/DJ/Listener interaction. Their live show is hailed as legendary (at least here in Philly) and the crew boasts the longest running monthly hip-hop event in Philadelphia to back up that sentiment. With the release of their first studio album, Everything, Everywhere, All the Time, Electric City maintains the integrity of their live performance, while paring intelligent lyricism and freestyle with innovative production; proving they are not just another ordinary hip-hop act, but true musicians." - word.

DJ SKIPMODE MIXES
These are the goods! These are all promo-only joints intended to showcase djing/party rocking abilties. But we all know they make for a great listen. Put 'em in your car and you'll wonder how you got around without them for this long.

Note:
mix downloads are divided into segments rather than individual tracks - typically 3-4 segments. This helps to minimize annoying gaps between adjoining tracks, and will make your MP3 listen more enjoyable. So don't be mislead by the low track count when downloading - These 3-4 mp3 files are indeed the full length cd.

Shameless Promotion 2
It Ain't Nothin' But A Party Y'all!

Despite the title, this mix actually has little musical similarity to the original Shameless Promotion. This one's a lot more upbeat-80's pop/hip-hop-dance influenced, rather than the classic hip hop/ old school funk type vibe of the first one. What they do share however is a clever, skillful, genre-jump type mix that keeps the party going strong, and makes for a thouroughly entertaining 80 minute joyride. Hits from the likes of EPMD, Pointer Sisters, Daft Punk, Big Daddy Kane, Human League, Rod Lee, Rod Stewart, Biggie Smalls, Devo, Cool C, Gantman, Outkast, Kid N Play, Metro Area, and yours truly are sure to get you in touch with your inner bug-out. While offerings from Chaka Khan, LL Cool J, Hall & Oates, Fatback, Tuff Crew, Queen, Zapp, Lisa Lisa, and Bohannon will have Turnpike tollbooth collectors bobbing their heads. Also recommended for use in the gym and elite social gatherings. Mixes well with alcohol. Sprinkle liberally on french fries, meats, and poultry. 35 tracks in all.

Future Shock 086
"Oh I think you're gonna need all that bass!"

Oft imitated, never duplicated - This 2005 mix remains a personal favorite. It starts off with some raw, old school 808 rap circa 1985-1988, moves into Miami Bass/ 80's electro territory, then takes a final stop in Detroit for some ghettotech/ Juke/ booty madness. There's a handful of classics on here to keep the casual listener in step, enough overlooked / unexpected / long forgotten joints to keep old school heads excited, dirty-filthy lyrics that school kids love, and loads of bass and ass shake-ability throughout. Recommended for fans of Mantronix, Egyptian Lover, NWA, 2 Live Crew, Juan Atkins, DJ Assault, Kraftwerk, Tuff Crew, Byron Davis, Blowfly, Paul McCartney, Godfather, Stetsasonic, Rodney-O & Joe Cooley, Eddy Grant, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Cat Stevens, Krown Rulers, DJ Slugo and more. **Now with more cowbell!**
80 min/ 43 tracks in all.

Shameless Promotion 1

Here's an oldie but goodie. Flashback Feb. 2003 - The "turntablist" movement had grown stale, the mash-up / genre-cross thing hadn't caught on to audiences yet, and I had just gotten the promos for 50 Cent's "In The Club" . Enter "Shameless Promotion" here. A month later, after that years WMC in Miami, I didn't think I'd ever want to hear that song again, but I'm listening to it right now and it's fittin' just fine on this disc - right between Scarface and Slum Village. Lots of classic material on here from the likes of GangStarr, Pharcyde, Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince, BDP, Sly & Robbie, Slick Rick, James Brown, Ghostface, Malcolm McLaren, Positive K, Biggie, Dennis Coffee, Jay-Z, Blackbyrds, Tenor Saw, De La Soul and more. A lot of the songs on here have become staples in dj sets the world over by now, but this mix still holds up from start to finish, and continues to be a fan favorite. There's something for the ladies, something for the heads, and overall good vibes throughout. Blame it on the flow Joe. Certified. 79 min. / 35 tracks total.

Run DMC vs. Beastie Boys

DJ's Skipmode and Panek (illvibe collective) - A tribute to some of our heroes. There should be no surprises here - yet alas there are. You've heard most of the songs before, but never quite like this. 40+ tracks from two of the most influential groups in hip hop history - all in one 80 minute non-stop mix. If you're a fan of either group, you owe it to yourself to be rocking this one.
