NOMADIC MASSIVE
LIVE AT MONTREAL JAZZ FEST
ABOUT ME
I've been a hip-hop junkie since the late 80s, when I moved to Canada from Hong Kong! My first taste of the music came from
golden-era tapes like Big Daddy Kane, Eric B & Rakim, and Tribe Called Quest, and from listening to college radio DJ's mixing and
cutting up records and doing live blends. I tried to break down what I heard and taught myself to do the same... before there
were instructional videos and Youtube!
In 1996, I started WEFUNK Radio with Professor Groove on CKUT 90.3 FM. Our show has a heavy focus on music (funk, soul, jazz,
etc) that laid the foundation for hip-hop. We also keep a lot of classic hip-hop in weekly rotation, and try to shine a light on
up-and-coming underground artists. We started the WEFUNK website (www.wefunkradio.com)
in the late 90s, and became syndicated on iTunes Radio in 2001. Our fanbase has grown to include people from as far away as
Russia, Brazil and Japan.
From 2004 to 2008, I was a member of NOMADIC MASSIVE (www.myspace.com/nomadicmassive), a live Montreal hip-hop group that was first formed to perform at the Havana Hip-Hop Festival in Cuba. The group not only melds English, French, Creole, Spanish and Arabic lyrics but also music influences from
around the globe.
