"DJ XL5 brings into play short features and found images the way musical DJs use songs, remixes and samples in their continuous-mix sets or mixed CD compilation. The final product is a kind of "culture jamming" or "media barrage," a rapid-fire satire of modern culture, television zapping as a source of entertainment and a mirror of the strange world we live in. DJ XL5 is a Montreal based multimedia artist whose short -film programs have traveled across Canada to several film festivals, repertory theatres and other film events."
In previous lives as a live DJ, I used the names of DJ Kitsch, DJ Fireball and DJ Flytrap. In 2002,I Became DJ XL5 and joined Montreal’ s cult musical collective PMS on Extasy, which released the album The Sci-Fi Project. During that time, I also did some live performance combining music and found sounds and images including "My Science Project" and "A Moment of Silence" (about September 11th).
In 2004, I created DJ XL5's Zappin' Party Extravaganza, which premiere's became a surprise hit at the Fantasia Film Festival. A eight cities Canadian tour followed. In 2005, I assembled and edited DJ XL5's International Zappin' Party, a program in which I started experimenting more with editing and social commentaries. The same year,
I was commissioned by the Tele-Retro Festival and produced and edited DJ XL5's Retro Zappin' Party. A mainly nostalgic and psychotronic program. In 2006 I created both DJ XL5's Zappin' Party Cavacalde and DJ XL5’s Midnite Zappin’ Party and a short entitled 16-33-45-78, and am currently co-directing his first ..ary.
My last performance is a VJ battle entitled DJ XL5 vs Total Crap presented on October 31st at the Club Soda as part of the SPASM festival. This performance was entitled DJ XL5's Trashorama Zappin' Party.
DJ XL5 est un artiste multimédia et ancien membre du collectif culte montréalais PMS On Extasy. En 2002, ils ont enregistré et distribué un album intitulé The Sci-Fi Project. Durant cette période, il a aussi fait quelques performances multimédia en spectacle en combinant musique et images trouvées, dont notamment My Science Project et A Moment of Silence.
En 2004, son programme DJ XL5's Zappin' Party Extravaganza a été présenté dans plusieurs villes canadiennes, dont notamment une semaine au cinéma Cartier - Québec. À l'été 2005, il a présenté à plus de 700 spectateurs Intermission Time et le DJ XL5's International Zappin' Party dans le cadre du festival Fantasia. Le programme International a ensuite joué dans plus de 15 villes canadiennes et une présentation à guichet fermé dans le cadre du festival Montréal en Lumière. Au festival Week End TéléRétro (automne 2005), il présente le DJ XL5's Retro Zappin' Party.
En 2006, il offre le DJ XL5's Zappin' Party Cavalcade ainsi qu’un hommage aux films de série B intitulé DJ XL5's Midnite Zappin' Party. Il expérimente aussi avec les tables-tournantes, l'acrylique et développe actuellement un court métrage (16-33-45-78) et un ..aire sur le chanteur Normand L'Amour. Sa dernière performance est un combat de VJ - DJ XL5 vs Total Crap - et a été présenté le 31 octobre dernier au Club Soda dans le cadre du festival SPASM.

J'ai bien aimé la nouvelle chanson qui figure maintenant sur ton profil. Il y a longtemps que je ne l'ai pas entendue. "Party all the time", la seule chanson (et l'unique succès) enregistrée par Eddie Murphy; que de souvenirs.
