vizier of damascus hails from a myriad of locations: to date he registers his council tax in three worldwide cities: London, Damascus and the age old fantastical silk road city of Samarkand. much of what is heard originates from field recordings and a broken library of tape. also of note are telling keynote signatures, which after careful examination present themselves as the artist delivering lectures. one presumes that this relates directly to his role as teacher - perhaps as live classroom recordings. acknowledging the artist as also a sound designer, his acoustic design role extends also to museums, art installations, television advertisements and educational acoustic resources. there is also an uncanny presence of what can only be described as the sound of the machine from the inside. this initially arose out of the artist acquiring a rudimentary government computer from Pakistan that was used to generate acoustics tests for nuclear test emissions. with the assistance of his father the artist reconfigured a selection of 1970's video tape recorders so that their magnetic transmissions could be recorded through the aid of an oscilloscope - generally responding to the unwitting frequencies generated by the components rather than the supposed default emission of the device working as a whole. compositions are programmed in Algol(an algorithm based programming language). the artist has also recently returned to playing arabic string instruments and the percussive based tombak. __ ____________________________________ __ _________ _
