   About D'Mystro

The Beginning

As a promising young studio musician and an expert in analog programming, D’Mystro began recording at MTV Studios in Frankfurt, West Germany during the early 1980s. He was one of the youngest musicians present. How young you say? D’Mystro produced his first record at the age of 15. Soon thereafter, he produced, wrote, arranged, and published the MTV recording entitled “Volume of Goodlife” located on (A-Side) and “Love in My Heart, Tears in My Eyes” (B-Side). While living outside the United States as an army brat and going to school in Germany, each song hit major rotation on WCKX-Ohio FM, WKYS-DC FM, and K104 FM – Dallas, TX.

After achieving much success oversees, D’Mystro returned to the U.S. in 1985 and became a member of the Go Go, Rap, R&B, and Hip-Hop band, “Icee Hott”. While contributing with the band and under contract with EMI/MANHATAN records, D’Mystro and the group released their Maxi Single entitled “Hollar at Me”, in which the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified gold in 5 countries. In addition, he filmed a music video with Kurtis Blow and collaborated with Billboard Magazine, Rolling Stones Magazine, and several major label executives (ex. Ed Eckstine of Arista Records) on various projects within the Go Go and R&B scene.

D’Mystro’s dedication and music skills eventually landed him in the studio with the group “Snap”. During which, he co-produced a remix of the powerful and multi platinum international song “The Power” through Arista Records. This was the “Jungle Fever” version featuring Jackie Harris, lead singer for “Snap”.

The Progression

As the 1990s began, D’Mystro embarked on several projects as a sound stage manager for a plethora of BET programs (most notably, “Video Soul”) and contracted companies. As manager, he developed several contacts with high-profiled American artists, record labels, and television/music production companies.

An accomplished MCA-Universal songwriter/ASCAP Award Winner Producer/1991 platinum producer (recognized by the RIAA), Darryl Dash, was one of those contacts. While traveling to New York, D’Mystro partnered with Dash in ’91. They founded Dayna Paryss Entertainment (DPE) Records, and promoted it as a nationally recognized independent music publishing and production company. This collaboration initiated a decade of successful songwriting and producing hits for some of the industries promising up-and-coming R&B artists. Some of which include: Tanya Blunt (vocalist-actress that starred in Sister Act) and Tommie Johnson (background vocalist for Patti Labelle), Rodney Mansfield, Crystal Waters, Len Mercer, Eric Gable, Brian Moore, Keith Martin, Johnny Gill, The Black Birds, Cliff Jones, Eric Roberson, Prophet Jones, William Becton, and friends.

During production, D’Mystro toured with Kool and the Gang and the Dazz Band on a funk festival tour in Europe, while also working gospel tours in the U.S. with Shirley Ceasar, Kirk Franklin, and Mighty Clouds of Joy. In addition, he toured with Cherrelle, Randy Ran, James Brown, Gerald Levert, and the SOS Band on separate occasions. After completing several tours, he produced a music video in 1994 for BMG/Critique/Meeko Artist Brian Moore entitled “Stay a While”.

As the mid-90s approached, D’Mystro co-produced songs and was a road manager with Columbia and Ruff House Records’ recording artist Keith Martin. In 1995, he wrote Martin’s single entitled “Think of You All the Time”, which was featured on the original soundtrack for the hit motion picture Bad Boys. He continued touring in 1996. On this occasion, he was accompanied by Chante Moore, mentor and the late Barry White, and Love Unlimited Orchestra. It was during this U.S. tour where he was given the name, D’Mystro. As the 90s concluded, D’Mystro also toured with the acclaimed multi-platinum R&B group, Boyz II Men in 1997 as a keyboardist and studio musician.

The Continuation

A new century surfaces, but a long career continues to thrive. This was quite synonymous with D’Mystro. Performed live on the Cable Television Network (CTN) in 2001, in which he made an appearance on “Megahertz Urban” with female DJ Michel Wright (a WPGC Affinity/CBS Radio personality) to promote his live-in-concert CD.Moreover, D’Mystro participated in the Second Annual Nashville Music Conference in Nashville, TN during June 2001. Months later, he performed at the MCI Center in Washington DC on September 29, 2001; shortly after “terrorist attacks” in America.

Success continued in 2002 when he appeared on the Sprite Liquid Mixer tour with Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, Dame Dash, Freeway, Roc Family, Pharrel & Chad of The Neptunes/NERDS, and Nappy Roots among others. In addition, D’Mystro collaborated with the John Lennon Education Songwriters Network. Later, he produced radio commercials for Radio One in 2003 and recorded singles for his 2004 release “Shh Just Listen.”Moreover, D’Mystro wrote and released his second solo single entitled “Eye Kandy” featuring Kamui. Erick “Emajor” Shervington collaborated with D’Mystro in the production process and music video of the single. D'Mystro appeared in full page Ad promoting "Eye Kandy" in Black Renaissance Exclusive Magazine w R Kelly and Jill Scott and several Major brand market artist.

While on tour in 2005, he appeared on several cable television stations in Richmond, VA, Washington D.C., and Detroit, MI promoting his CD releases. In addition, he made an appearance at Dream Nightclub featuring Magic Johnson, New Edition, Radio One, and Lincoln. Furthermore, he won R&B Independent Artist of 2005 from the Hampton VA chapter of the NAACP.

In 2006, D’Mystro was honored by Radio One at DAR Constitution Hall’s Second Annual Go Go Awards. 2007 saw D’Mystro and Dayna Paryss Entertainment co-producing “Keep It Real”, a track for Big V of Nappy Roots. In addition, the 2007 “Volume of Goodlife” was used on multi-platinum recording artist and songwriter Kanye West for West’s Grammy Award nominated Graduation LP.

Currently, contributing to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists on Capital Hill in Washington DC, regarding airplay for internet artists, and also contribution to American Soceity for Composers, authors and Publishers on ASCAP Member Bill of Rights. From his embryonic stages in the music industry producing a solo career and releasing several successful major independent maxi singles to one of the most accomplished major market and self-published song writers, solo artists, and underground/international producers on the web, D’Mystro has various achievements in the industry and his continuing success is limitless.
