Dolan's Pub and Restaurant was established in 1878, but obviously many things have changed since then. The electric light bulb was indeed a wonderful invention! Indeed the entire docklands area of Limerick has seen major changes, especially in the last few years. The once famous landmark of Ranks flour mills, which served as a welcoming sight for many a weary sailor has almost vanished. Only one of the original towering entities remains. It was so sturdy in it's construction that the company charged with it's demolition went belly-up trying to knock it! Fortunately the nearby Dolan's was unharmed
Dolans pub is now a bustling emporium of fine food and drink, with a hearty helping of traditional Irish music every night. Thanks to a rare concession known as a 'dock licence', Dolans is one of the first pubs to open in Limerick each morning. If you're the early riser type, or coming in from a long day on the night shift you can get a 'full Irish breakfast' from 8:00 am for the miserly sum of 6.95, and have a fresh creamy pint to wash it down "for a few dollars more"!
Every night in Dolan's you can hear the finest local and visiting traditional musicians playing in an informal setting in the bar. Many well known Irish and international 'heads' make a point of including Dolan's Pub in their itinerary for the un-equalled atmosphere. The action starts around 9:00pm nightly. C'mon in for a pint, you'd never know who might be there.....
For those that love dancing there are set-dancing classes during the winter months on Tuesday nights at 8:00pm
Everyone's welcome, young or old, beginners to experts!
Just in case you think Dolan's is all 'old-timey', we'd like it to be known that we welcome all types. Dolan's has become one of the hot-spots in Limerick for corporate parties, birthdays, engagements, bahmitzvahs, divorces and re-engagements, and you can book some tables in the pub, or go all-out and book our Upstairs Venue or Al's Beer Garden for your private 'VIP' party
Give us a call at 061-314483, or email grainne@dolans.ie and we'd be delighted to help plan your special event, small, medium or large!
Open to all unsigned artists, I will start them off and upload their stuff, no distribution, all rights are the artists. It's in promo mode, no downloads until launch in a month or 2 :)
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Limerick Live 95FM’s Green and Live show has been running monthly showcase gigs in the city’s finest venue, Dolan’s, for the best part of two years now.
On the last Thursday of every month three new Irish acts take to the stage as part of these showcases to promote the best, new music in the land. The gigs are free to get in as many people as possible and over the last two years they have been very well supported, so it’s a good gig to do.
I guarantee radioplay every week in the month up to the gig for the bands taking part and the media in Limerick have been very supportive as have Hot Press magazine so there’s plenty of coverage to spread the word on your band.
Being free gigs they are not earners for the band but are worth their weight in gold when it comes to publicity and playing to an audience hungry for new music. I am now taking bookings for 2010’s gigs so if you are interested in playing the Green and Live Sessions next year get in touch asap.
Bands interested in taking part that have not sent me a CD for the show before should do so now before emailing me as I will only consider acts for these shows who’s music I like enough to play on the show. My address is Alan Jacques, Green and Live, Limerick Live 95FM, Radio House, Dock Road, Limerick, Ireland.
Its been a while and we thought it was about time we updated you on what we've been up to. Our debut EP Little World is now available at our gigs and will soon be available from our myspace and facebook pages, you will also be able to download it from itunes, but we don't have a release date for this as yet.
To celebrate the fact that we have now reached 25,000 plays on myspace, we are giving you a free MP3 of Rockabye Baby. All you have to do is send your email address to queen.elvis@yahoo.ie and we will send it to you.
We have spent the last year rehearsing with a full band and are now ready to bring it on the road. You can get a look at us when we appear on Balcony TV this week with the full line up. We are currently taking bookings for gigs/concerts/festivals and can be contacted on the email above, or through our myspace and facebook pages.
Thankyou for your continued support in what has been a great year for us!
