WHO IS DON DIABLO....???
Who is this DON DIABLO dude that everybody is talking about? Well, for starters he is a producer, musician, imaginary friend, DJ, singer, writer, part-time streaker, visualist, record label boss, invisible hooligan and someone who just despises boring long form artist biographies with an abundance of irrelevant info. Therefore, here are sixteen basic in-your-face facts you just have to know, well kind of.
1. DON’s debut artistalbum is due for release May/June 2010 through Sony Music...! 2. Don, who was named after Captain Beefheart (Don van Vliet), released his first record at the age of 15. In the years after that he went on to release over 120 records under many different names. Some were great, some were okay and some were shit. According his dad that is... 3. DON has remixed such diverse artists as Public Enemy, Mika, Cassius, Iggy Pop, Newton Faulkner, Noisia, Master Shortie, Frankmusik, Dragonette, Plump DJ's and Laidback Luke, with whom he also collaborated in 2008 under the guise ‘Imaginary Friends’… 4. DON always plays with 4 decks when he DJ's, even though he only has two hands. His friends like to describe his sound as a mix of PunkFunk and DistortedDisco. Don thinks it's just good music. DON's hectic tour schedule has taken him from Hong Kong to London and from Miami to Sydney. Last year he has played festivals like Glastonbury, Creamfields and Mysteryland and he did his first US Tour as well as the legendary Summadayze Festival tour in Australia early 2010... 6. DON's own tracks have also been remixed by a wide range of remixers including: Trevor Loveys, Riva Starr, In Flagranti, Mason, Treasure Fingers, Linus Loves, Olav Basoski, A Skillz, Caged Baby, A1 Bassline, Spor, Motor, Black Noise, Kraak&Smaak, Doorly, Laidback Luke, Noisia, Louis La Roche, Mowgli and many others recently…! 7. DON was the ‘Most Googled Dutchman of the Year’ in 2008, according to an annual survey held by Dutch radiostation ''Radio538''. Don is still wondering what people were looking for, those pictures he made when he was 14 didn't leak, right…!? 8. DON has received several nominations and awards in the last 18 months including: Nominee for ‘Best Music Video’ (TMF Awards) and he was named ‘Most Popular Dutch DJ’ at the GKA Awards. Oh yeah and he was voted ‘Best Dressed Man of the Year’ by Esquire Magazine, Kanye eat your heart out…! 9. DON founded his own record label and event brand ‘Sellout Sessions’ in 2006. The label had it's first success with a tasty hiphouse tune called ‘Don Diablo - Blow’, which received a tasty remix by Sébastien Léger and was licensed to over 10 territories… 10. DON has later on proved his ability as an A&R by discovering, signing and then licensing the UK top 3 chart hit Mason - Exceeder through his former sub-label ‘Middle of the road Music’. Don: yes, the version before the cheesy video ;-) 11. DON's music was used for TV Shows like CSI NY and TV campaigns to promote several (Hollywood) movies. 12. DON produced part of UK rapper Example’s forthcoming album together with other producers such as Calvin Harris and Chase & Status. Their single ''Don Diablo & Example - Hooligans'' hit the no. 1 spot in the UK Dance Charts and was one of the most blogged tracks of the year. 13. DON recorded the title song for a major independent Dutch movie called ‘Radeloos’ ('Desperate') in 2008, which debuted at number one at the Box Office and he continues to work on several other soundtracks for a diverse range of motion pictures… 14. DON likes to drink milk during his DJ-sets, sings on most of his own records, has never done drugs, doesn’t have nearly as many girlfriends as media reports, and eats desserts three times a day... 15. DON is an ambassador for Dance4Life; an international UN-supported action campaign to fight back against HIV and AIDS. MTV Networks shot an intense documentary of DON’s visit to several Dance4Life affiliated projects in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa... 16. DON's mother is very proud of him, as is his father, who is more into Frank Zappa though...
