Donna is a multi-instrumentalist. She began playing guitar in 1973 with a guitar that her dad had brought hom from Vietnam. She acquired her present day Alvarez Guitar in 1976. In 1987, Steve, her husband, built her a Dulcimer and in 1990 he bought her a Mandolin for Christmas. She added a Dobro to her collection in 2004; a Uke from Hawaii in 2005; and has experimented playing with Sid, her son's, banjo; and Sonny, her daughter's, fiddle and piano.
In the past Donna has played with local musicians for benefit concerts in Albuquerque, NM; in an enthusiastic bluegrass band called "2nd Hand Strings"; "Dulicimer Duo"; "George & Donna"; and with "Bruce Irwin and Friends" on numberous occasions.
She left the band scene when she had surgery, replacing her hip from a car accident in 1997, and began playing independent coffee house music. George Butterfield, former S.W. Pickers President, introduced her as "The Albuquerque Songstress". Mike Boyle, Host of The Mike Boyle Restaurant Show in Colorado Springs and Denver, said "Donna is a female James Taylor".
Donna Plays a variety of unique cover tunes. Songs she enjoys and gives her own personality to from varying artists as: Nanci Griffith, Patty Larkin, Eliza Gilkyson, Allison Krauss, Gillian Welch, KT Tunstall, Kasey Chambers, and many others along with some of her own tunes.
