Portland Oregon's jazz scene is very fluid. I am often asked to sit in with other local musicians at their events. Likewise, other local musicians sit in at my events. The engaging client, nature and scope of the specific event, and scheduling availability of very talented Portland musicians dictate the composition of the band at any particular event. Regardless, if I am being asked to sit in with another band, or inviting musicians to sit in with me, I am always playing with the very best musicians within Portland's jazz community!
As an endorser of Drum Workshop Inc. (http://www.dwdrums.com/), the Avedis Zildjian Company (http://www.zildjian.com/EN-US/home.ad2), and Pro-Mark Corporation (http://www.promark-stix.com/), I am a featured clinician nationwide. In a collaboration with artists that include Catone Lyle (Percussion), Al Criado (Bass), and Neal Grandstaff (Guitar and Vocals), I am currently recording a live CD at two of Portland's premier jazz clubs that will be released during early 2007. I hope to share my skill set with you at one of my drum clinics, or entertain you at one of my live shows, soon!
Life is shorter than it should be. Don't get so caught up in the details of living that you forget about the magic of "Life". Enjoy America's number one musical art form the way it should be celebrated - LIVE!

With regards to drumming, I can’t pick just one drummer that influenced me. There is no doubt that Buddy Rich greatly influenced me, but he was influenced by William Henry “Chick” Webb, who was in turn influenced by others before him. What ever I say behind the kit probably has been said by one of the drumming greats before me at some point in space and time. The art of playing drums is to voice my perspective on what others have said.
There are many non-drummers that influence me as well. Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington’s enormous contribution of compositions to the jazz musical art form; the brilliant music that was created in the face of personal adversity by Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. All of these artists, and more, were very driven individuals. They played because they loved what they were doing. In spite of any obstacle that may have prevented them from pursuing their passion, they never decided to turn their back on the art form and go do something else for a living.

Donny Osborne, Buddy Rich's protégé, began playing drums at the age of four and was hailed as a "Drum Wizard" and "Drum Prodigy" by Chicago newspapers. By age 13, he was performing and touring the U.S. with Buddy Rich and his band. In the early 70's, Donny joined Mel Torme on the road and continued to play, record and tour with him for more than 23 years. He has also backed jazz luminaries like Sarah Vaughan and Peggy Lee, and performed with famed percussionists Steve Allen and Gene Krupa.
