Doomenicus (Domenico Caruso) was a one-man band born in 2001 by Doomenicus’s will (who first acted as singer, songwriter and helped with arrangements). During this first phase of the band’s life Doomenicus was accompanied by Baron Frankenheimer (Francesco Rinaldi), who deals with guitars. Still in 2001 Doomenicus produce their first demo titled “Suffering of Souls”, which contained three tracks characterized by their length, by their evocative mood and by a very professional production. Immediately Doomenicus start to built a good reputation around them in the underground doom metal world. The reviews are very positive (Tomet E- Zine, Metal Shock, Brutalism, Empire Metal ‘Zine, MetalWave, Il Male Production, Solitude Aeternus and many others) and they galvanize the one-man band’s work, which however starts to slow down, despite the large requests for live shows and the work-in-progress with another demo. (2006) Doomenicus remained frozen for five years, during which their leader, notwithstanding his great efforts, could not find anyone who could concretely help him with his project, until Murnau (Alessandro Nespoli), who worked as a guitar player in many local bands, involved Doomenicus in a Jammed Funeral Doom/Drone project whose tones were very expressionistic and bizarre: Remember November. On this particular occasion, which witnesses the presence of Murnau as a drummer and of Doomenicus as guitarist and screamer. While waiting for another guitar player and another drummer, the two members start to write and record new tracks and, generally speaking, all ideas without rejecting anything. At last, at the end of December 2006, the guitarist Stefano De Vito (Iubal) and his brother Davide (Crazoyde) on drums, join the band. The band now is defining: Doomenicus (vocal/bass), Murnau (guitar), Iubal (guitar) and Crazoyde (drum). The quartet immediately demonstrates its both emotional and musical concord, writing a large amount of material in a relatively small period, to the point that the band begins to think about recording the much awaited second demo after five years.The sound of Doomenicus, after this second incarnaton has testified to an apparent change of sound, in particular because of the absence of keyboards. The doom sound of Doomenicus now is much heavier, cathatonic and powerful and so more similar to that of bands such as Saint Vitus, Candlemass, without forgetting the great teachings of Paul Chain and “The Black”.
Doomenicus nasce nell’inverno del 2001, la stagione del Doom, per volere di un doomster di Foggia: Domenico Caruso. Influenzato da grandi band come Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Paul Chain e Candlemass, da vita ad un progetto solista con l’aiuto di Baron Frankenheimer, al secolo Francesco Rinaldi, alle chitarre. La prima ed unica demo realizzata dal duo, intitolata “Suffering of souls” datata 2001, fu composta musicalmente a casa di Doomenicus mentre la registrazione vera e propria fu effettuata presso gli "Audiolabs studios" di Marco Maffei. Nonostante i pochi mezzi la registrazione risultò estremamente professionale e competitiva, tanto più che tutte le recensioni risultarono molto positive. Addirittura il duo figurò e figura tutt’ora tra i gruppi doom il cui ascolto è consigliato di più secondo un sondaggio del mensile “Power Zone”. Dal punto di vista tematico, Doomenicus affronta tematiche molto sentite, prima fra queste la fede cristiana; infatti i brani risultano come degli inni alla disperazione ma anche alla potenza della preghiera per risollevarsi da tali stati d’animo estremamente depressivi. Non a caso, il periodo a cavallo fra il 2001/2002, la depressione era grande compagna di Doomenicus, dalla quale traeva una forte ispirazione per scrivere e comporre. Successivamente, nonostante il progetto prevedesse una seconda demo, la band entra in pausa di riflessione a causa della scarsità di elementi per dare forma e colore al progetto per circa sette anni. 2006 - Nonostante il fermo artistico, Doomenicus non si ferma, e cerca collaborazioni con i primi soggetti che si trova sotto mano. Un triste sabato sera di Novembre, Alessandro Nespoli (Murnau) e Doomenicus, infastiditi del parassitismo imperante della citta nel weekend, decidono di sfidare la fitta nebbia e di recarsi al box di Murnau, sito in via San Severo. Con un fedele rec'n'play, il duo registra una terrificante Doom Session che si articola per 27 minuti e 29 secondi e che vede Doomenicus alla chitarra e alla voce (lamento)e Murnau alla batteria, dando vita così al progetto dei Remember November. Nel periodo di ottobre 2006 Doomenicus e Murnau decidono di rimettere in sesto i Doomenicus, cominciando in grande stile, ideando e registrando nuovi brani che comporranno la nuova demo dell'ormai ex one man band. Una svolta decisiva avviene nel febbraio del 2007 quando il duo diviene un quartetto ben compatto e coeso: si aggiungono il chitarrista Stefano De Vito (Iubal) e suo fratello Davide (Crazoyde), rispettivamente chitarra e batteria. Ora i Doomenicus hanno una vera e propria fisionomia. La band rimette i remi in barca nel migliore dei modi, accellerando di molto i ritmi di lavoro, sfornando nel solo mese di marzo due brani nuovi e lavorando per il nuovo full-lenght intitolato "Sacred".
