About The Deli Magazine presents // DORK FEST

Looking out across the cultural landscape of San Francisco there appears a disheartening absence. In cities such as Seattle, Portland, and New York there exist thriving and unified local independent music scenes and enclaves, while here in San Francisco there is a lack of anything similar. It is not that San Francisco is in need for local musicians; it’s that there is a lack of cohesion within the community. Whereas outside of San Francisco there are intricate musical communities whose musicians and fans provide a broader support system, in our city musicians are seemingly disconnected and the welcome fan base has no easy avenue to explore the would be concentrated depth of San Francisco’s soundscape. As a result our musicians are driven to play in other cities for lack proper venues and events to support them, and for that the city suffers.

The DorkFest series, presented by the Deli Magazine, will be the events that kick start the return of San Francisco’s independent music community. The DorkFest series will feature and promote local San Francisco groups, showcase and galvanize the independent music community, and serve as an announcement to place San Francisco’s independent music scene back in competition with New York, Portland, Austin, and Seattle.

This sounds like a great event! Let's put SF on the Map, there are some great local bands here that should be heard.
