Must be a damn good night out to catch them in person.... From ‘Beat Magazine’ By Patrick Emery.. If there's a better local release this year than It Seemed Like a Good Idea At the Time, it'll need to be pretty damn good..... Johnno, Geelong.. "Fuck you's cunts are grouse".... From ‘I-94 Bar’.. This isn't one of those records where the big guns of songs are reeled out at the start and the quality fades. "You Got It All" is an arresting opener but the quality keeps coming. "The Liar" and "Strawberry Red" battle it out for tour de force… is bigger, brassier and better than their debut "Friends in Low Places".... From ‘ Rhythms Magazine’ July ‘07.. This raunchy, soulful, rocking gem of a record has that special ability to make you happy. It's built for barbies with your mates, spur of the moment road trips and the start of a new relationship (rabbit season you dig!). The sound Is easy to pin down. The Stones Exile-era country tinged rock crossed with a love of the 80's Australian underground (The Scientists, good era Beasts Of Bourbon). But pinning it down is the easy part, having the style and taste to pull it of is a different kind of genius. Rock is in it's 50th year, it's been done to death and seemingly hasn't got anywhere new to go, so making it worthwhile today is a tough assignment. You have to bring a lot of heart and sincerity to the same old chord progressions to make them seem new. The Double Agents do this in spades. It's a fresh, exciting, record. Kim Walvisch's tough girl vocals are a joy, she sings with such authority. They mix beautifully with Dave Butterworth's world-weary, in-the-gutter-looking-even-further-down, voice. The music has an "in the moment" feel. Like it was done quickly but by a band who have spent a long time playing together and know how to do it right. Loose, yet still somehow tight is tough to acheive (I'm thinking Stooges here), so this is no ordinary band. With any justice some of these tunes will go on to be underground classics. 'Makin' Eyes' is bloody unreal, a swaggering, three minute rough diamond; dropping down to a whisper at points, it then builds to a joyous chorus. Ditto , 'You Got It All' and 'Wasting My Time' The album finishes with the majestic 'Movin' Right On'. But you won't want it to finish. And it won't. You'll ring up that old friend you haven't seen in ages and get on the turps. You'll quit that job that's been shitting you. It'll get you out of a rut. It'll make you feel good. And, seriously what more can a rock'n'roll record do?
