Ok, this is the full story of how we came to be. Jaron Mosier was the lead guitarist for a band known as Stick Shift. He was in it with Lucas Sanders and Forrest Topping. After a couple months, Joe Ohlenbusch joined as a guitarist of Stick Shift, and they made an original. Shortly after, the band had broken up. Joe and Jaron were talking about starting a new band. They founded their band in their freshman civics class, and Joe knew of a few up and comers that were pretty good with their instruments. First, Joe recruited Adam Wilson as a drummer. Adam had not been busy with any other band at the time, so he agreed to join. Next, they needed a bassist. Joe's first thought was of Andrew Murphy. He had been playing bass a year before Joe approached him. He accepted. Joe and Jaron were talking about a band name, and they came up with Down Shift, because the music they played slowed down the pace of what was popular. Down Shift had been instrumental, until early August, when they tried out a singer. This singer did not do much for the band, and he was out less than a month later. Next, Andrew approached Dave Nelson on being the lead singer. Dave accepted and took vocal lessons. A few months later, due to social and musical differences, Down Shift decided that it was best to relieve Andrew of his duties. Down Shift was then a four piece band, with Joe on bass. They decided then that it would be better if they went back to being a five member band. They tried out Matt Dazell for a couple practices. He played guitar, but he was just starting bass. He was good enough for Down Shift, so they added him as their 5th member. Matt joining the band made everything fall in place between the 5 members. After that, Dave was informed that he was to move with his family to Ohio this summer. It had been a few months later but in August 2007 we all decided after his tryout that Bill Davis would be the new singer for Down Shift. And now our singer Bill has departed from us and we wish him the best of luck at the Young Americans out in California and now we are a four piece and not stopping there.
