Necessity spurred drag racer Doug Pelmear to design a way to keep the engine block in his 1979 Ford Mustang from twisting and breaking ? and even cracking in half, as happened once.After two years of development and at least 16 revisions, the Napoleon businessman?s patent-pending product not only stabilizes V-configured engines by placing spans over the block?s valley, it boosts fuel economy in everything from race cars to pickups by 5 percent, he said.?I never expected for this to make a fuel-economy difference,? said Mr. Pelmear, anengineer and president of Horse Power Sales.net Inc. in Napoleon.?I just wanted to keep the block together.?The introduction of Valley Girdle Pro, which also boosts an engine?s horsepower, promises to more than double the $250,000 in sales the Napoleon business had last year, Mr. Pelmear said. Next year, the company could triple sales, he said.Founded as a speed shop to sell parts and accessories nearly a decade ago by Mr. Pelmear?s late father, Don Pelmear, Horse Power Sales also does repair work and sells used vehicles. Customers such as fellow drag racer Andy Godfrey of Napoleon have been coming to the business for years for parts and advice.?Doug knows what he?s talking about,? Mr. Godfrey said.And Mr. Pelmear?s Valley Girdle Pro, which has been featured on ESPN2 by drag racing guru Don Garlits and in other racing media, could put Horse Power Sales on the auto industry?s map. Though initially developed for racing, the product is useful for passenger vehicles, especially in instances such as towing or driving in rough conditions, Mr. Pelmear said.Both Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. are talking with the northwest Ohio firm about putting Valley Girdle Pro on its production engines, and Mr. Pelmear is working with two NASCAR teams, he said. Starting at $179 retail, the product is sold at his Napoleon shop and by a some national parts distributors since its debut at a racing trade show in December.Jim Wrobleski & Co. Inc., a Michigan City, Ind., company that represents manufacturers, was recently hired to pitch the new product to distributors. The agency, which typically represents much larger companies with multiple offerings, should be able to sell more than $1 million of the product through distributors, said company salesman Trace Walls.?We don?t usually take on someone with a single product,? he said. ?This is a unique product that we think we can take all across the country.?Mr. Pelmear said he is considering selling public stock in Horse Power Sales to help raise capital, and he is working on other engine products and wants to expand sales efforts. But he isn?t interested in getting into manufacturing, preferring to leave that task to machining experts, he said.Three Henry County machine shops make the product from Pennsylvania-made steel, and it is packaged in boxes made by another local company. Although Mr. Pelmear has been approached by a Chinese manufacturer about making the product at a lower cost, he plans to continue having it made in the northwest Ohio for quality and control reasons, as well as to keep jobs local, as his father would have wanted, he said.?He really believed in America, what we stand for here,? We expect to release the new Verde Super Car at the LA International Auto Show in December 2009. Revenge intends to display two versions of the Verde; one left-hand and one right-hand drive with the purpose of releasing the vehicles to the World market.
My proper name is Douglas Pelmear( Doug will do ). I enjoy Drag Racing .. My car is a 1979 MUSTANG LX V8.. the best quarter mile from 0 to 163 mph in only 8.63 seconds in Street Trim! That's a ride. I have been racing for more then 10 years. In this time I have been featured in National and World Wide publications, From HOT ROD , Motor Trend, 5.0 Mustang & Super Ford and Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords , Race Pages, Fastest Street Car ... to name a few For Racing and my Products. One of these named " Valley Girdle Pro. " In racing there is a "CHALLENGE"... The CHALLENGE to go faster.. each year then your opponent can.. My THINKING IS " If you don't break it you're not pushing it hard enough and the Cheaper $ you can do it the Better." WELL... I practice what I preach. I broke everything in my PONY. I even Broke a Ford Motorsport A4 Block! So I had to come up with the solution. From examination of my broken parts. That's when I found it braking at the mains. I installed a main girdle on the next engine. Now it was cracking from the center top down to the mains after I had the Main girdle installed. ( I found the next weakest link in the chain.) On my NEW Engine Block I braced the lifter valley also( Valley Girlde was born ) to limit the twist the pistons and rods were applying to the top of the engine block. With Track and Dyno testing a Ford 302 stock 2-bolt survied 9200rpm and 615+ RWHP! I would say I am bless by GOD to be able to do what I love and what I am good at! My friends tell me that I have Creative thinking. I would say that I have Humanitarian pursuits.. and all the fun one can have..
