Self-described as the multi-hyphenated “Ambient-Winter-Calypso-Space-Folk”, Dragon Turtle is the atmospheric musical collaboration of Brian Lightbody and Tom Asselin. Lightbody exists in Brooklyn, fulfilling the dual roles of NYC creative director and musician, while Asselin lives in rural Northeastern PA, working on a tree farm and operating One Forest studio, while making music with Lewis & Clarke. In 2006, Dragon Turtle shared Light The Lamps on their side of La Société Expéditionnaire's first release: A split 7" with Strand of Oaks. While in the vein of other La Société Expéditionnaire artists (Tom has played in Strand of Oaks and currently L & C, while Brian has designed many of the label's packages), they draw more influence from Post-Punk, Krautrock and ambient/electronic music while refracting dark Americana aimed at contemplating natural dualities within the universe. To this end, the band is as influenced by Robert Smithson, Michio Kaku, Adonis, and Art Bell. Dragon Turtle embraces community, finding a place for each character amongst all La Société artists and friends contributing to recordings and performances.
"The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." - JFK
Hey boyos, I've been trying to catch up with you! I guess I'll have to wait until our annual New Years bender to get some face time. Here's to Old Man Winter!
