About me:
Born in the foothills of the Rhode Island Alps, Kathryn Pollnac was stolen from her crib by wandering squid and
secreted away to their submarine lair. Many years later, she escaped, but would forever crave the taste of small fish and krill.
As a child, she endured the required number of years in the dreaded institution called "public school." A horrible experience, to be sure. and the less said, the better. After that trial was complete, she went on to a place called "University," where she spent many of the hours when most people are sleeping playing scratchy old records by her favorite bands in a smelly little room called a "DJ Booth" in a place called a "college radio station." Thus warping the tiny brains of some of the local high-school students, and ensuring that they'd fall in love with bands like Cindytalk, Legendary Pink Dots, and Nurse With Wound.
Oh, and in this place called "University" she also studied many things, spent far too many hours printing photos in a "Dark Room," and got something rather useless called an "undergraduate degree." A B.F.A. in Photography, to be precise.
After that trial was complete, she moved to Boston, then to Portland, Oregon; back to Rhode Island (by the sea); spent a little time in Birmingham, AL; and finally settled with her partner of almost 5 years (Caitlin R. Kiernan) in the horridly landbound city of Atlanta, GA.
Currently, she is continuing a dollmaking fascination that began in Portland in 1999 when she first made tiny dolls out of cloth and paint. In 2001 - 2002, she sold larger cloth dolls on consignment in a shop in Ithaca, NY. Currently her medium of choice is Paper Clay, painted with acrylics. She has been working in this medium for a little over a year, and has sold quite a few dolls, prompting her to create Dreaming Squid Dollworks. She chose this name for obvious reasons, as she will always be a squid at heart.
