Hello.
Hope you're doing good.
So what do you think the final healthcare reform bill should be named?
"Ted Kennedy?" "The American Plan"?
...and why do the conservatives continue to hijack the national debate?

Hey, I think the show is great, and I look forward to the upcoming Scahill and Chomsky interviews. Here is something you might like to talk about: Electoral Victory in Finland!

Yes, yes, the country has a population of about 7 people and thus might be disregarded, but it's really a wonderful story. The citizens of the country hit hardest by the economic crisis, in a bizarre act of democracy, peacefully overthrew their capitalist government and elected a bunch socialists in a few months.

Some of the changes?

1) The right-wing Independence Party didn't win the most votes for the first time...ever. I'm not sure about the results before this, but every election from 1946 onwards they've easily won the most votes. This election? They came in 2nd behind the Social Democratic Alliance and almost came in third to Left-Green Movement – who are politically similar to the U.S. Green Party, just more to the left.

2) The left-wing coalition between the Social Democratic Alliance and the Left-Green Movement, is the first left-wing coalition to ever hold a majority in Iceland's parliament. It also the first time in 18 years that the Independence Party hasn't been part of the ruling coalition.

3) The Citizen's Movement, a left-wing populist party that emerged two months ago, won 7.2% of the vote. Which is somewhat sudden and ridiculous.

4) The new Prime Minister is a women. A first. She is also openly gay. Also a first.

So, you know, economic depressions are bad...but on the upside they might lead to right-wing governments being overthrown and replaced by socialists lead by gay women. At least that is how Iceland works. So you know... cheers to them.

Here is a time-line of how it all happened: http://news.alibaba.com/article/detail/markets/100091336-1-timeline-iceland-holds-crisis-induced-early-election.html

It's best to be drunk whenever dealing in politics.
It makes more sense that way.
