Sound and light mixed with dark and quiet, or, for a less esoteric (lessoteric??)answer, everything to do with audio and the interaction of waveforms and pressure, audio mixing in particular, FTP me the tracks and we're on our way...my specialties/obsessions lay in mix problem solving, like: phase coherency correction, track editing, tempo/pitch massage(THOUGH THE 'TYPICAL' USE OF AUTOTUNE IS LAZY AND OFFENSIVE. End of rant), mixing home-recorded tracks to achieve their fullest potential. Irish history and language (Gaeilge), theoretical physics/string theory(hey, I don't make any claim to really understand any of it- but I'll keep trying),anti-Parkinson's drugs, and life here in Portland, Oregon. Yummy, for real- but the city's all full up, sorry. 89% Geek 89%
  • Music

is in the ear of the beholder... I LOVE these bands, stuff i've been listening to recently...in no particular order. None of these are hotlinks, and..crap...many of these bands no longer exist. *sigh* NOTE THOUGH THAT YAKUZA, THE ENIGMA'S ELECTRIC ACID THEATRE, DELORENTOS, DUDLEY, DEAF RO, THERAPY?, LARGE MOUND, EARTH, BORIS, FIST FITE and many others ARE STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE AND KICKING MANY ASSES. -Yakuza (Belfast)-- and not merely because I mixed their upcoming record, not by a long shot. They have fascinating way of doing things, and songs that seem like they've always existed...yeah, that's the sort of muck I talk. -Talk Talk (and Marc Hollis) (UK); (every album. every one.) -City Of (and their various offspring)(Seattle) -the Delorentos (Dublin) -BORIS (Tokyo) -THE DUDLEY CORPORATION (in my dreams, I play guitar like dudley(Dublin) -THE ENIGMA and ELECTRIC ACID THEATRE- yeah, he may be 10000% covered with puzzle-piece tattoos and so forth, but the man is also an incredible pianist, as well as playing a dozen other instruments equally well. Including the Tesla Coil and chainsaw. -pretty much every record Jack Endino has done. One must rock to live. -EARTH. The early 'drone' records AND the more recent, achingly beautiful ones too. -LOS LOBOS and their extended family. Hail! -Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan -Feckin'THERAPY? (BRAND NEW RECORD DONE WITH ANDY GILL/GANG OF 4 PRODUCING!) -Large Mound -Fela Kuti -Terry Riley -LaMonte Young -THE MINUS 5 and their Dark Lord/Leading Light Mr. McOi. He also plays in some other band. -Isao Tomita -The Incredible Force of Junior (Seattle) long gone, shoulda been trillion sellers. Maximum Rock and Roll, reviewing a record I did for IFOJ, once threatened to kill anyone associated with them. That is all you need to know. -WORMWOOD (Seattle) -Mars Volta and At The Drive In -Mumblin' Deaf Ro (Dublin) -Hoover Cain and all Jim Sykes projects (Seattle/Peru) -Pretty much every Bill Laswell production -Andy Irvine/Paul Brady (Ireland) -R to the E to the M. -the Klaxons (UK) -FistFite (Portland!) It'd be absurd to keep going. The nevereverending list. These just popped to head.
  • Movies

I enjoy moving picture documentation of amazing feats of human potential, or such that at least really piss off religio-regressivists with hot naked nuns wrestling in vats of lentils. Laughs are good, history is good, I'm a documentary frreak. I have a love of Japanese film, sort of in general...
  • Television

I'm helpless against MythBusters and House, M.D.. Hugh Laurie in Black Adder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and Jeeves and Wooster= best television ever. And obviously Stephen Fry, too. Dear God, the pair of 'em... best. comedic actors. ever. Whoever told you i watch american idol is a dirty, dirty liar. er, yeah. it's a sickness and if allison gets booted, feck 'em. I'll watch anything I can find online that's in Irish Gaeilge. At this rate, I'll be fluent by 2089.
  • Books

comprise 95% of my belongings. I've probably read more Beckett and Mad Magazine and Joyce and Hunter S. Thompson than is at all healthy. And not enough Harlequin romances or 'Juggs' magazines.
  • Heroes

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA. And, everybody is a potential hero, we should all take turns. Flip for it?

About me:

Doodle Bread Logo In One Eye And Out The Other
Yup, ∂ußh is my 'real' name. I mix recordings and generate strange variations in air pressure. I've mixed and/or recorded records for 300+ groups/projects/films/misanthropes/etc in a 'career'(??) spanning 2 centuries and a few continents. And some incontinence...
I was diagnosed with what they call 'Atypical/Young-Onset parkinson's disease' in 2004, we'll call it 'PD' for short. Sure, it's changed the way I do things. If doing full productions from start to finish, I'll work with someone I know and lurv to be the hands-on engineer, and I play the roles of Captain Steubing/Isaac/Julie/and and Brian Eno on the Love Boat; or I mix the tracks after they've been recorded. It's been fantastic to grab full 24b files and songs via FTP or a joint like rapidshare. This has allowed me to work with a whole bunch of really outstanding Irish bands over the last few years. That is pretty schweet. A real highlight was having YAKUZA fly all the way from freakin' Belfast to Portland to mix their forthcoming record at my favorite studio, Jackpot! Recording. Now, I'll only work on a single project at a time. I gotta admit I don't miss doing 4-bands-ina-day sessions...
I was lucky to've had some fantastic adventures playing brain-curdling music in the service of THE ENIGMA'S ELECTRIC ACID THEATRE, and I hope you'll delve deeply into their page here, and also at www.electricacidtheatre.com . The Enigma is the living edge of human potential, you must see his show at any opportunity.

Quite possibly THE classic norn iron punk song.

Who I'd like to meet:

Bemused visionaries and the joyfully bewildered. People who help out where its needed, without any thought of recognition or remuneration. And there are a whole lot of these people around-- you may be one yourself, so I'm glad to meetcha.
I'm always pleased to meet musicians, bands, musical/artistic ensembles of all types who require audio mixing, manipulation, creative enhancement, and problem solving. I'm always open to discuss the 'F' word (finances, in this case); I operate on a truly sliding scale. I only take on projects that I really enjoy and can somehow relate to-- regardless of genre or any other artificial borders. So, I'd probably like to meet you. Let's chat, shall we?
