Art, History, Visual Perception and Visual Neuroscience. Ok those are all kinda boring. Let see...I enjoy creating unusual thing out of chocolate. Winding mountain roads with no cars on them. I-15 Virgin Canyon in Arizona is great. My favorite is 1-70 outside of Glenwood Springs in Colorado. It even has a scoreboard that tell you how fast you are speeding
Music
I like all sorts of music. Recently I've been listening to a lot of Psytrance, Motown Remixes, and Django style jazz guitar. Oh can't forget Art Blakey and his drums.
Movies
I'd rather watch a bad movie that I haven't seen over a really good movie I have.
Television
Reality television rules my world. Just kidding.
Books
My three favorite books are by the same author Daniel J. Boorstin. I real them over and over. "The Discovers", "The Creators", and "The Seekers".
Heroes
I don't like my heroes in spandex. Oh wait Wonderwomen looked pretty hot in hers.
Here's a bunch of my unusual art videos. Mouse over or use the
menue to chose from the various videos.
Thanks for stopping by...my name is Jason. I'm just your average guy trying
to get through life doing things my own way. The path of a good job with its
stability, wealth, and security seemed to be lacking something. So a couple
years ago I decided that my way involved creative and artistic pursuits. There's
just something that appeals to me about venturing into the unknown, where the
line between failure and success is a thin tightrope.
I don't have any formal institutional training in art. In fact I spent a good
portion of my life trying to avoid artistic pursuits by delving into left brain
studies like science and math. So now I'm trying to catch up by teaching myself
things I've never attempted before and learning from all the inevitable mistakes.
A lot of people ask me why I chose the name Eclectic Asylum. Yes it is a pair
of two unusual words that aren't used very often. So here's the definition.
eclectic - ec·lec·tic [i-klek-tik]
1. selecting or choosing from various sources.
2. made up of what is selected from different sources.
3. not following any one system, as of philosophy, medicine, etc., but
selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems.
asylum - a·sy·lum [uh-sahy-luhm]
1. A place offering protection and safety; a shelter..
2. The protection afforded by a sanctuary.
3. Protection and immunity from extradition granted by a government to
a political refugee from another country.
4. An institution for the care of people, especially those with physical
or mental impairments, who require organized supervision or assistance.
We live in a world that ironically pressures us to quantify ourselves into
categories, yet at the same dictates we behave in definable "average" and "normal"
ways. Commercial pressures influence us to quantify our lifestyles. Do you have
the latest fasions? Are you Preppy or Emo (Emo is today's fasionable not so
counter-culture culture)? Is it Pepsi or Coke? Social pressures want us to label
our politics and beliefs. Are you Republican or Democrat? Liberal or Convervative?
Relegious, Agnostic, or Athiest?
The irony is as long as one can be labeled into any of the opposing categories
they are still "average" and "normal". What about the people
who don't want to be labeled? Those who can't can't chose between diametrically
opposite classifications. This is where Eclectic Asylum comes from. It's a refuge
for individuals who refuse to limit themselves with categories. They might seem
a little abnormal and nutty at times but they are in essence true to themselves.
I sometimes sell custom portraits and original art on Ebay. Check it out!
Just popped by to write a small message informing you that I'm a fan of those famous ppl portraits you magically conjure with a pencil or what not. Kudos.

Judging by the work you show on your page, it would have been a shame not to make art part of your life. I imagine that there is plenty of room in persons life for science, math, & art. Don't give up the things that you are good at.
Welcome to the road less traveled & the least secure. (art) Also, I am glad to have you as a "friend" on my list.
Hey Bro, I enjoy the work and motivation you provide by cranking out so many piece's. It's made me up my game, on my own art. Wish you the best with all you do.
