Notes On Breakcore - Documentary Trailer (A/2006)

my statement on myspace

compared to many others I joined very late, maybe surfing the wave of hype with myspace.com having supposingly more than 100 million users (aug.2006)..

I am kind of sceptical about the whole system of myspace - I see advantages (especially for musicians, bands) and I see huge disadvantages, even dangers.

Rupert Murdoch, one of the world's most right wing media moguls has bought myspace.com and incorporated it into his "News Corporation". Alongside the FOX Channels, myspace.com is part of a pool of tools in the hands of very powerful men.

In a lot of cases myspace has already been used by law enforcement authorities to investigate people and there is little known about the policies of myspace handling personal data. In the USA there is no such thing as data protection laws as we have them in Europe, so myspace could easily be used as a gigantic information gathering engine. Marketing agencies and advertisement firms already use myspace to target their potential customers and for market research. [TIP: use the firefox browser and install the AD BLOCK extension to block ALL advertisement banners of myspace]
