WANHOOP (Dutch for Despair) is a Flemish Black/Doom Metal band. Bert and Joeri aka 'Zwarte Dood' summoned it in 2003. The style is a mixture of Black and Doom Metal influenced by bands as KATATONIA, BURZUM, MY DYING BRIDE & HELLHAMMER. In less then one year a demo was recorded which was released in February 2004 as a split-cd with the black metal band KLUDDE. It was called 'Elegy of Despair' and was released by NEPHEREX limited on 1,000 copies. (the album is sold out by now)

Later on the band appeared on an Algerian Metal compilation and recorded an exclusive track for the Flemish Black/Death Metal support community LUGBURZ (rip).

Three session members were found to perform a couple of gigs to promote the split-CD with KLUDDE and MORRIGU with Tom on rhytmguitar, Uglúk (KLUDDE) on drums & Dave (SUDARIUM) on bass. After some line-up changes a more steady line-up was formed with Steven on drums (SARIN) & Mike on bass (FUTUREPROOF). We did more gigs with bands as METHADRONE & INSANITY REIGNS SUPREME. Steven decided to leave the band and that's where Joachim (THEUHDO) came in (2006). The line-up had become strong enough to perform more gigs with bands as SHINING, SATANIC WARMASTER, ANCIENT RITES, MORTIIS, THE DEATHSTARS & even MY DYING BRIDE at the Pestpop festival. After the split-up with founding member & vocalist Joeri (2007) Bert decided to persist with the band together with Tom & Joachim. The band started rehearsing with Bert on vocals & Jurgen (THEUDHO) on 'stand-in' guitar immediately after the split-up with Joeri because the band was allready booked for an important gig. The band did another try-out gig at Negasonic and played a show with KLUDDE & FORGOTTEN TOMB.
Currently WANHOOP is writing/recording a new album. Some guest- and session-musicians will appear on the upcoming album. The album will be released through NephereX. Artwork will be done by HARBINGER DESIGN.
