Winner of the James Morrison Generations in jazz vocal scholarship 2008, Elly Hoyt has been singing professionally from the age of thirteen. Originally from Tasmania, Elly is working around the Brisbane scene as an up and coming jazz vocalist singing in venues such as Jazzworx, Brisbane Jazz club, Festivals, Art Galleries and private functions. In her beginnings she started out as a featured vocalist in a twenty-one-piece big band that was chosen from around the state of Tasmania. The Youth Big Band was honoured to have Don Burrows as the patron of the band and performed with him on several occasions. At the age of fourteen, Elly was the youngest person in Australian history to sing the national anthem for the Australian cricket board in the Australia Vs New Zealand one-day match. So impressed, she was invited to a return performance the very next year to sing for Australia Vs England. In 2006, Elly moved to Brisbane where she is currently studying a bachelor of music, jazz voice at the Queensland Conservatorium. She is studying under Irene Bartlett, vocal coach of singers such as Kristen Berardi, Katie Noonan and Megan Washington to name a few. She is working with John Hoffman in the highly acclaimed band “Con Artists” and is a featured vocalist in the Queensland Youth Orchestra Big Band. Through out her musical career, Elly has performed and worked with the likes of James Morrison, John Morrison, James Muller, Phil Stack, Don Burrows, John Hoffman, James Sherlock, Jim Pugh and many more acclaimed musicians.
