Formed in December of 1978 by 15 year old guitarist Dave Enos and 22 year old vocalist Larry Philips. Emerald was known as a band with heavy music as well as powerful lyrics. Emerald went through many bass players and drummers in the next 7 years, one of which was Roger Martin (Vengeance Rising, Once Dead), who was instrumental in initially financing the first $1,500.00 of the "Armed for Battle" EP. After recording the bass tracks on the album, Roger decided to leave the band to form the speed metal band, "Vengeance Rising." After Roger's leaving, the classic Emerald lineup of Kyle Morrett: Drums, Joe Palma: Bass, Dave Enos: Guitar, and Larry Philips: Vocals, was in place. "Armed for Battle" was released on March 27th, 1987, which was kicked off by an album release concert.
The album did very well in Europe, but due to a lack of promotion, didn't fair very well in the states. Emerald toured the southwest and recorded several tracks on 2 compilation albums, but finally disbanded in November of 1988.
Emerald's mission was to reach the unreachable with a message of hope, behind music that was designed to quench the fires of hell.
Of the classic lineup of Emerald, all are born again Christians, as are Roger Martin and Todd Norris, two guys that weren't part of the classic lineup, but are more than worthy of honorable mention. We're done looking to the stars, our eyes are fixed upon the cross.
