It's just me on guitar and my lovely double bass. these days damon thompson plays guitar with me on stage. other musicians appear on my recordings, malcolm le maistre on banjo and occasional backing vocals, pete baynes on ukelele, jillian bainbridge appears on harp.
I also play double bass with Rob St John, he's in my top friends, and Benni Hemm Hemm, he is too..
I feel lucky that lately I've been able to support the likes of Vic Godard and Subway Sect, James Yorkston, and Teitur, and I LOVED playing at this year's Fence Homegame.
Influences
well, joni mitchell, the roches, james yorkston, billie holiday, laura viers, arni egilsson, noel coward, john betjeman, tom waits, bill callahan, people who make things themselves.
Sounds Like
ok i hope:
"Understated but intriguing balladry..breaking down the listener's expectations with unusual chord changes and cute multi-syllable rhymes" (the Skinny)
"Whimsical, charming, double-bass-inflected folk-pop with buckets of soul & unexpected melodic twists" (Vic Galloway, BBC radio Scotland)
"Lovely dream-like quality" (Cherrie McIlwaine, BBC radio Ulster)
"Her voice has that lilting folk-feel, her playing a vaguely jazzy-feel, and it all seems held together with an honesty and simplicity reminiscent of old-time bluegrass. Enchanting." (www.bluesbunny.com)
"And very nice it is too." (Iain Anderson, BBC radio Scotland)
My latest album, "abcdefg...etc..." is ready. It's nice. It's got 12 songs on it. It's hand-crafted, possibly from a cereal box, possibly stuck with glue, possibly stamped with a rubber stamp. I'm happy to say it's released by aufgeladen und bereit on the 22nd june here in the UK, and on the 19th june in Germany. I am a lucky girl. I'm trying to put a paypal button here, but it seems to be taking a while...
in the meantime, it's available from AVALANCHE and ELVIS SHAKESPEARE in edinburgh, MONORAIL in glasgow, ROUGH TRADE in london, and many more... also from www.aufgeladenundbereit.com
my first album is called "longshore drift". It's got 10 songs on it. It's also exceedingly pretty to look at, with polkadots, a seagull and some gingham ribbon, like the best jars of jam.
It's also available from AVALANCHE records in cockburn st, edinburgh; and ELVIS SHAKESPEARE book & record shop on leith walk, edinburgh; both are VERY GOOD places to buy nice things
also, I have a split single out on Autumn Ferment, with Helene Renaut, it's my pond dipping song, featuring some jamjars and a recorder, and Helene's lovely 'bumblebee' song. As you can see, the vinyl is made of lemon custard. It's available direct from www.autumnfermentrecords.com

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Obama Can’t Turn the Page on Bush "I’m not a fan of Washington’s blue-ribbon commissions, where political compromises can trump the truth. But the 9/11 investigation did illuminate how, a month after Bush received an intelligence brief titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.,” 3,000 Americans were slaughtered on his and Cheney’s watch. If the Obama administration really wants to move on from the dark Bush era, it will need a new commission, backed up by serious law enforcement, to shed light on where every body is buried."(FRANK RICH) http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/17/opinion/17rich-5.html?_r=1&ref=opinion
