Hey everyone…
I’m so excited to finally be up on myspace. This is the first place you’ll be able to hear my music. I just finished this track and really wanted to share it with you.
I just flew in to LA this morning, after being home in New York City for a week. It’s just turning Spring in NYC, the most beautiful time to be in the city, the flowers are out in Central Park and it actually smells good. As I mentioned, I’m in LA, where I’ve been for the last few months finishing my record. I’m so excited it’s almost done! I’ve never looked forward to sharing a project more. I’ve always been a musician first and these songs are really reflective of that. The freedom to be able to express myself -- not play a character like I do in film – is so liberating and fulfilling. It took a lot of courage to expose myself in the way I do with these songs, but lyrical honesty was one of the most important things to me in this process.
This record is really close to me, I hope you like it.
I think of all the different music I’ve been exposed to in my life – whether it’s jazz piano, rock, folk, or classical at the Met in NYC – which laid the groundwork for the music I was able to create on this record.
Most of all I really wanted to test the limits of the voice, to try and use a vocal where you’d ordinarily use strings, piano and other instruments. Even some of the percussion is my voice.
I’m putting up a 30 second clip of a song called “Slow Me Down” … many things inspired me to write this song… sometimes I feel that the world moves so quickly that I worry I will miss the important moments that make life so beautiful… like falling in love…
I also wanted to share some pictures I’ve taken on my mac.. I do everything on this thing, write music, take pictures, and stay connected to my friends and family when I’m traveling. So this should give you a sneak peak into me on my free time!
xx Emmy
