“As long as I can remember I always wanted to sing. Once when I was younger my mother asked me, “If there were one thing and one thing only, that you could see yourself doing for the rest of your life. What would it be?” I answered, “I would sing. I would be a singer.” That same desire rings true even today taking Epiphany from her first solo performance “Can’t Get a Man With a Gun,” in the sixth grade to the acclaimed High School for the Performing and Visual Art’s Grammy® Award Winning Music Department. At the tender age of twenty singer songwriter and native Houstonian Epiphany has been accompanied on stage by the Houston Symphony, and performed for Miss America 2003. Already the songstress of choice for some of the industry’s most prolific music producers, Epiphany has a bright and diverse career ahead of her. That same diversity shines through even in theater. She has performed in four stage plays; Our Feet Can Tell a Story, Whatever Happened to Our Love where she not only performed but co-wrote the lead in composition, The Gospel According to Hip Hop, and The Gospel at Colonus. In the latter two plays Epiphany featured as a solo vocalist. Marquee performances at the “Kafi House,” charity events, web publications, car shows, art exhibitions, compilation features the list goes on and on. But beyond all her accomplishments it’s her music that separates her the most. Epiphany is reminiscent of an age when music lovers ran the music industry and Apollo’s stage was the launching pad for the stars of tomorrow. This is not surprising with such musical inspirations as Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, Meshell N'DegeOcello, and Donnie Hathaway. Epiphany’s sound is so rich, so unique, so authentic, and so refreshing. I’d like to think Barry Gordy himself would buy her record instead of a sandwich for lunch. “I think my music is refreshing. I feel that I stay true to myself and that’s what makes my music…MUSIC!” “A lot of people will look at my age and wonder where all the knowledge and experience comes from. And, I can honestly say that I don’t know, its just a little old lady somewhere inside begging the world to hear my story, But its not just my story its, The Story, everyone’s story and I’m ready for the world to Feel Me.” With an eclectic sound all her own, songs composed by her fingertips, and chords strung across a guitar affectionately known as Shirley, Epiphany shows impressively. Creating music for today and tomorrow, Epiphany is the voice of a generation. Listen! You’ll not only see but feel the passion in every note. “I don’t want to sing, I need to sing. There is nothing more that pleases me. Music is the drive that fuels my being. Like the blood in my body is filled with little quarter notes and whole notes!” I’m glad she’s here.
