Eshalon are a Hamilton-based band who have been together for two years and come from incredibly diverse backgrounds. Their uniting factor is their passion for music, which each of them have studied on a tertiary level. They have played everywhere from social functions to pubs to the Waikato Uni Christmas in the Park and just recently at the inaugural Hamilton 400 V8s. Their alternative pop sound is as diverse as the boys that play it, and is influenced by the likes of Incubus, the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, U2, Delirious, and Eight.
Tom Chapman-Smith grew up in Te Akau before heading to Auckland for schooling. He now lives in Hamilton where he is a music teacher. Tom is in charge of the keyboard, flute and backing vocals for Eshalon.
Tony Diprose is married to the wonderful Julia and they recently celebrated the arrival of their first child Summer. Tony is on bass and has a passion for achieving the perfect tone on his Ampeg rig, which he does with consistency. Born in Auckland, Tony spent most of his life in Te Awamutu before moving to Raglan where he now lives with Julia.
Nick Kraenzlin is by far the most traveled member of the band having spent a large part of his life in Germany, Wales, Tonga, and America, but now calls New Zealand home. Nick is the lead-singer, guitarist and songwriter for the band, and also does solo work (www.myspace.com/nicholaskraenzlin).
Peter Shields is on drums, which he plays with a passion. Growing up in Otorohanga and Raglan, Peter now lives in Hamilton tutoring drums and working as a sound engineer.
Eshalon came together while all the boys were studying at Vision College. Vision gave room for Eshalon to form as a band, performing on the annual schools' tour and recording their first demo in the schools production suite. Eshalon still has a strong relationship with Vision and values the knowledge acquired while studying there. For more information, check out www.visioncollege.ac.nz
Writing is always a passion for any band and with no exception here. Eshalon are always working on new material, trying to find new ways to communicate with their audience. Their lyrics aim to be universally relevant and speak to situations that people face day to day.
Eshalon's first EP will be released in 2008. It has been a long time in the process but the lads are very excited about the recording! They will be playing at as many opportunities as they can to share their Passion! for music and desire to leave a legacy larger than music...
