Eva Alkula specialises in contemporary music, electronic music and Japanese fusion ethnic music. In 2003 she graduated from the Sibelius Academy where she studied contemporary and classical kantele music with lecturer Ritva Koistinen. 1999-2000 she studied the Japanese traditional instrument koto as her main subject in the Hokkaido University of Education. Alkula has won the 1st prize in the National Kantele Competition for soloists in 2003. In 1999 Duo Rauta (Eva Alkula and Katja Pitkänen) won the 3rd prize in "Uussoitto" contemporary chaimber music competition.
Alkula gives solo recitals and plays in chamber groups. She has participated in several music festivals in Finland and abroad, such as Tuusulanjärvi Chamber Music, Tampere Biennale, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Musica Nova, Time of Music in Viitasaari and Nordic Music Days. Stage music productions are a key element of Eva Alkula's work. She has taken part in various theatre and opera productions in Finland, Estonia and Ireland, among others. The venues include the Finnish National Theatre, Svenska Teatern, The Tampere Theatre, the Finnish National Opera, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Project Arts Centre in Dublin and the Von Krahl Theatre in Tallinn.
Alkula also uses the electric kantele together with, among others, koto artist Tomoya Nakai and violinist Pekka Kuusisto. Alkula's and Nakai's first duo album, Youkihi was released by Texicalli Records in 2009. Former releases are e.g. Memnon (2007), which includes electro-acoustic music by Alkula and sound designer Ville Hyvönen, and solo albums Ikioto (2004) and Helios (2007, CNCD Finland).
The National Council for Music and the Finnish Cultural Fund have granted Alkula 6-month and 1-year scholarships in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Her activities in promoting the kantele tradition and performing challenging contemporary music are widely appreciated.
Besides working as a musician, Eva Alkula teaches kantele in the Sibelius Academy and holds the chairmanship of the Kantele Association and Nihon Kantele Tomonokai.

現代音楽、電子音楽、そして日本の民族音楽とのフュージョンなど幅広いジャンルで活躍。
ソロ活動の他に、室内楽アンサンブルでの演奏、また、トゥースラ湖室内楽祭、タンペレ・ビエンナーレ、クフモ室内楽音楽祭やムージカ・ノヴァなど多数の国内外の音楽祭にも出演。
また、舞台音楽制作にも多くのエネルギーを注いでおり、フィンランド、エストニア、アイルランド各国の演劇やオペラの制作に携わっている。（フィンランド国内ではフィンランド国立劇場、スウェーデン語劇場、フィンランド国立オペラ、サヴォンリンナオペラ祭、国外ではダブリンのプロジェクト・アーツ・センターやタリンのフォン・クラール劇場など。)
2005年、2006年、2008年の３回にわたり、フィンランド・アート・カウンシル及びフィンランド文化基金の芸術家奨学金を受けるなど、カンテレの普及と可能性追求に多くの期待を集めている。
エレクトリック・カンテレにも積極的に取り組み、琴奏者の中井智弥氏、バイオリニストのペッカ・クーシスト氏等とコラボレーションを展開中。サウンド・デザイナーのヴィッレ・フヴォネン氏との『Memnon(メムノン)』（2007）、ソロアルバム『Ikioto(イキオト)』（2004） と 『Helios(ヘリオス)』（2007) 等をリリースしている。
演奏活動の傍ら、シベリウス音楽院での後進への指導。さらに、フィンランド・カンテレ協会の会長を務めるなど、カンテレの第一人者として認められる存在である。
