Galerie und Raum für Projektion mit Schwerpunkt

VJ-Art & Projektionskunst.

VJs / VisualistInnen sind…

ProjektionskünstlerInnen, MedienkünstlerInnen... im weitesten Sinne KünstlerInnen, die sich in verschiedenster Form mit dem Kreieren von visuellen Erlebnissen mithilfe verschiedenster medialer Technologien beschäftigen. Das Spektrum reicht dabei von medialen Installationen für Ausstellungen, über visuelle Kompositionen, das Gestalten von Räumen durch Projektionen, Projektionen im öffentlichen Raum, bis zu visuellen Live-Performances, bei denen Audio- und VideokünstlerInnen, gemeinsam und live ein akustisches, visuelles und räumliches Erlebnis schaffen.

Obwohl „Projektionen“, „mediale Bühnenbilder“ und „Visuals“ aus den verschiedenen kulturellen Veranstaltungs-Genres heute kaum mehr wegzudenken sind, sind die KünstlerInnen, die hinter diesen visuellen Ereignissen stehen, in der Öffentlichkeit erstaunlich unsichtbar.

Und dies wollen wir ändern.

Der "Salon Projektionist" - Schauraum und Ort der Begegnung.

Hier wird einer neuen, aufstrebenden VJ- und VisualistInnen Kultur Raum geboten sich zu entfalten, sich der Öffentlichkeit in neuem Kontext abseits der Clubs zu präsentieren.

Die Kultur der VisualistInnen, das Vjing etabliert sich zunehmend als eine aufstrebende Kunstform, die im neuen Licht gesehen und erfahren werden will. Vjing will ernst genommen werden und versteht sich nicht länger ausschließlich als Dekoelement oder Beiwerk zur Musik. Die Ausprägungen sind vielseitig und sprengen längst die Grenzen die einst beinahe ausschließlich über das live vjing in den Clubs zu elektronischen Beats definiert wurden. Vjing, Projektionsdesign, Video Stills, analoge und digitale Formate sind die zentralen Inhalte der gezeigten Arbeiten. Raum – Projektion – Kommunikation und Anbindung an bestehende Netzwerke sind die Pfeiler des Salon Projektionist.

Ab September 2008 werden fortan monatlich Werke von VJs und VisualistInnen aus dem In- und Ausland im Abstand von je einem Monat im Salon Projektionist gezeigt. Die erste Ausstellung wird dem Wiener Visualisten Trio „Lichttapete“ gewidmet. Lichttapete steht für analoge visuelle Stimulation in Räumen der Wahrnehmung, Kommunikation und Begegnung. www.lichttapete.org

Kuratoren des Salon Projektionist sind unter anderem die Visualisten 4youreye alias Eva Bischof-Herlbauer und Gerald Herlbauer, der Filmemacher und Autor Fredrick Baker („The Art of Projectionism“), der Visualist und Lehrbeauftragte der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Mag.art. Jan Lauth, die Künsterlin Mag.art. Isabella Scharf-Minichmair, der Visualist Hannes Menneweger oder der a/v Künstler Matt Black alias Coldcut.

"AMBIENT CINEMA"

About Ambient Cinema (by Frederick Baker)

Variable number of images can be projected in parallel anywhere in the room, enabling the audience in the so-called “ambient cinema” to follow several scenes in the film simultaneously – just like in real life, where, as we know, the action takes place a full 360 degrees around us. The audience is therefore able to watch the activities or different shots of two or more characters in different places. The onlooker is embedded in the film, as it were, "like a fish in the water", as Baker puts it. In Baker’s ”ambient cinema” the onlooker is, as it were, freed of his tunnel vision, becoming more actively in the film than with conventional cinema projection. As in the case of “Ruhetag”, this enables the audience to understand the characters’ thoughts and memories in parallel. However, “ambient cinema” can also emphasize or weaken emotions, too. This is what happened in June 2005 during the first trial run on the way to Baker's "cinema of my dreams" in the film "Third Man Remixed" at the Café Donau. According to Baker, "the feeling of absolute, pervasive paranoia” broke out due to the projections in various sizes and places in the room of Holly as he comforts the weeping Anna - a well-known scene from Carol Reed's "The Third Man".
