Copy/Paste the following script into your "About Me" section. .. .... WE ARE BUT HUMAN review http://www.everythingrock.com/index.php?c=rd&id=2118 .... In my opinion, there are two main archetypes that a band can fall under. There are bands that will be forever compared to other, older bands; and there are bands that define their own spot in music and will be used as a reference for comparison later on down the road. One band that falls into the latter category is Ever We Fall. Their new full-length album, We Are But Human, is an album that penetrates the mind on so many levels that to even ponder it for more than a second would likely result in complete cranial collapse. The hard-hitting guitar riffs slowly mix with the relaxed, peaceful-sounding vocals to create an experience that makes you sit back for a second and mutter a Keanu-like whoa. .. .. The beginning track, Youth Like Tigers floats like a butterfly, but it stings like a bee. The guitars and vocals are slightly reminiscent of the old-school emo bands that appeared on the scene in the Northwest in the early 90s. It seems fitting, then, that this band also happens to have spawned from that part of the country. The overly indie feeling in the next song, Late Night Dance Party, is replicated throughout the entire albumnot that there is anything to complain about; the mood of the album is lighthearted at first, but upon closer inspection, you can tell the band put their heart and soul into writing this album and making sure it came out perfect. Schoolyard Crush has more of a hard guitar line than its predecessors, but still maintains the vocal tone that is prevalent throughout the album. No Sleep For Dreaming starts with nothing but vocals, but then it busts into a drum-heavy verse, expressing a bit of hardcore before going back into the normal style of indie rock. The drum line makes a glorious revisit in Bring Em In Billy, but like most of the other songs with a harder intro, it goes right back into that feel-good indie rock essence. G has some very excellent guitar and bass lines, and the lead singer exercises his skillful vocal range in such a beautiful manner that you will most likely need a box of tissues to wipe your eyes. The next song, The State Bird Mosquito, has ska-like guitar upstrokes in the middle of the chorus, but thankfully Ever We Fall keeps the horns and skanking far, far away from this album. One of the most interesting songs on the album is No Words To Describe. This song starts out with a very slow and haunting guitar riff, followed by slow, Jimmy Eat World-style music that continues for the majority of the song, until roughly six minutes (out of nine total) when the guitars start to get harder and so do the screams, all the way until the soft-again finale of the track. This trend seems to stay around for the next track, Great Day For An Airstrike. The soft-core element of this band is blaring from the speakers for the last half of this album, providing insight into the band not seen on the first half of the album. Its another one of those feelings that makes you so comfortable and relaxed and at peace with your surroundings. Personifying this feeling even more than the previous tracks is Evacuate! The second to last track, My Dog The Senator, brings back the poppy feeling from the first half of the album without any remorse, and its kicking ass and taking names. My favorite track on this album, however, has to be Welcome to Fhloston Paradise, only because Ive never seen another The Fifth Element reference in music. Ever. The soft-core elements mix with the harder parts in this song to create something that sounds like it was delivered down from Heaven via a choir of angels. .... Overall, this entire CD elicits the same feelings from me that Jimmy Eat Worlds Clarity did when I first listened to it. I listened to We Are But Human, and all I had to say was, Holy crap, where has this been my entire life? Hopefully its more than just me feeling the same. ~Andrew Krok Staff Writer .. .. ..Adam - vocals/guitar.. Ryan - guitar.. Matt - drums.. Aaron - bass .. .. Label - Hopeless Records..
