first and foremost, evs is a music fan before anything else. having a thirst for music is the only thing that keeps him semi-content. that said, he supports good music, with no care for where youre from or what scene youre part of.
evs is an acronym for erudite the vocal soliloquy, which subtly refers to a learned or scholarly person, and in this case one that vocally delivers monologues that go unheard by those that share the same stage. He uses this as a reference to the music he makes, in that most people dont hear what he says, even if he feels that whats being said is important. But dont mistake his pretension for arrogance, he is quite simply the opposite.
bourn out of a love for hip hop, evs began his endeavors in the mid nineties during which time his friends introduced many artists who still bear influence on his music: De La Soul, Hieroglyphics, Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, Saafir, Abstract Rude, Organized Konfusion, the list goes on. it was around this time that he began dabbling with music of his own. Like some without any prior knowledge of how to make music, he started recording songs to other peoples instrumentals, and soon enough he began making songs with friends whose love for the music was mutual.
with a second hand four-track recorder and a keyboard bought with a loan, they formed Subdivision (consisting of Humdrum, Incyte and evs), soon compiling a debut EP, Files in the Attic, on cassette. A second EP (The Appetizer) consisting of mostly songs from the same sessions appeared in 99 before the three MCs went their separate ways following Humdrum's departure to the army and Incyte's call to design.
evs continued and went on to drop an EP of his own, Shades of Grey in 2000, also only available on cassette. Since then he has made sparse appearances (both vocally and production-wise) as well as having released an instrumental mixtape entitled therapy (a collection of his instrumentals drowned in vocal samples and background noise), and a second EP, odds & ends released in 2002. "amiably repressed," released in the latter end of '05, culled together various songs from his previous releases mixed with a few unreleased ones. In December of 2007, Convenience Store, his album with Neila and Tommy V, finally saw the light of day. Look for a limited release, Weak-Ends for Week Friends in the new year. Also slated for 2009, the new full length "No Time For Local Binds," with both featuring production from Deeskee, Gaslamp Killer, Tenshun, DJ Egadz and more to be announced. also in its near completed stages, a short EP entitled "Polaroid." and so on and so forth.......
