I [Heat] try to mix "noise" with odd "mainstream" sounding song riffs.
i use the human voice as a perrcusion instument sometimes and build the "song" with a loop pedal using an assortment of ecentric instuments [Cello Bow,Melodica,Glockenspeil,hand held Radio and many more]
Sometimes X+X is joined by guest performers on stage.

To tell the tale of X+X you must tell a tale of acid abuse,Russian folk music,and the over scruntinization of John Zorns music, this is that tale. back in the day in the wild mid 90s when HEAT was in highschool a deranged young man with half dreads from Denver gave HEAT a tape of GonG and Naked City and told him it was from aliens, he beleived that for years the tape started opening his mind to the idea that all the music had not been written yet like he thought. He went home and bought "how to play" books for guitar,keyboard, and song structure, he also spent a small fortune at Coop records buying music from all genres and nations. He would listen to Polka,Klezmeir,African,Highlife,Avandt-garde, and what ever they listen to in the Orient, trying to asorb the styles. many years later that deranged man came back to join X+X as the bass player making the Alien acid circle complete.
2009 has been good to X+X so far; w/t Craig "the Butcher" Lenc [Disciple of Hate/original Shallow Grave/and 1 of Heats oldest and bizarre freind from the begining of time] joining on full time Bass and experimentation with trash percussionist and horns is at a all time high with several capable musicians performing live and on the = [equeals] EP.the band has also started to write "Collage" pieces playing several "sound scapes" and mini songs, juxtapozed with sound effects/samples/prerecorded circiut bending and improv snippets in a VERY organized manner.

(((NOISE SHOCK))) II was a smash this year making the 1st 1 seem like just a show. We all performed the Game pieces that was influenced by Zorns Cobra both days,,,,the = Cd came out and is still available from us, NITCO.and at COOP tapes and records along with the ARTery.next for X+X we have plans to split a Vinyl 7" and do many more game pieces this summer and Fall 7/14/09.
we are working on the follow up to =, 23 sq. a 23 minute 23 song 3 inch containing conducted noise peices and the songs "Channel Surfing" and "Dr Benway's Procedure",hoping to have plenty of noise making freinds on this release.
at he end of summer we were joined by William Martin on the cymbals and trash percussion making the dream lineup. ive liked all the many versions of X+X but right now it is at its best.

Heater yesterday night was the best X+X show I've ever seen! The tele counteracts with everything really nice, you should stick with it, and the drum set really added to teh sound, that was sweet, best of luck to you gents in Chi-town.
