Fendetestas started off as a bedroom studio project through which I kept in touch with distant friends in the form of on-line music/video collaborations and virtual jams that eventually led to live performances. Born in Spain, where early music projects enjoyed the applause of local audiences and national radio play, I moved to London in 2000. Just in time for Millennium Night. Since then, I've been based in East London. This is where I work and play. Recent acts in this country included shows on the London indie circuit as well as support-gigs at Manchester University and Nottingham Rock City. My background is in fuzz-driven guitar rock (a la joydivisionesque atmospherics that occasionally occur in Mogwai), but I currently explore (hence the “experimental” tag) the electronic weaving of multiple layers of guitars, using real-time loop machines that allow me to improvise and capture the immediateness of the very first take and the live production of multi-layered walls of sound spread along the stereo spectrum, intending to invite the listener to actively discriminate between its rougher textures and silky melodies. After all, weaving shenanigans is a very East-End thing to do! As for other jobs, I am a teacher at the University of London.
The name, Fendetestas, is taken from the infamous bandit that operates in the ultra-atmospheric Galician haunted – animated - forest portrayed in the book by Wenceslao Fernandez Florez, later taken to film and played superbly by Spanish anti-hero Alfredo Landa, “El Bosque Animado”.
Enjoy the music.
