Sydney songwriter Fergus Brown’s melodic guitar-pop is reminiscent of The Shins, Bon Iver and Ben Kweller, but he is equally aligned with the lyrical peculiarities of artists such as Randy Newman, Jonathan Richman, and The Magnetic Fields.
Fergus’ debut record 'Burgers Frown', released in 2009, is a collection of sometimes quirky, sometimes tender, love songs. Musicians on the record include Producer Tony Dupé (Holly Throsby), Producer Paul Mac (silverchair), Tim Derricourt (Dappled Cities), Jack Ladder and Holly Austin.
Fergus’ song ‘Last Winter’ featured prominently on Emmy award-winning US TV series ‘The Starter Wife’ and he has already performed with Martha Wainwright, Jens Lekman, Sarah Blasko, New Buffalo, Cloud Control, Dappled Cities, Lior, An Horse and Jack Ladder.
Fergus is a former winner of the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA), and the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, an emerging artists award scheme overseen by the Lennon Foundation in New York City.
Fergus completed a promo tour of London & New York in Jul/Aug 09, and will be touring Australia with Josh Pyke in Oct/Nov 09.
‘Burgers Frown’ is available online and in (Australian) stores now!

Hey fergus was loving seeing you on Friday at MUM my housemate is now playing your CD constantly hehe I will send you my Ep when it's all nice and recorded (hopefully over the summer) I'm really inspired to see your doing so well! and still teaching history hehe
I saw you play in New York City this past July (by accident, I was there to see the band before you), and you played one of the best shows I've ever seen! I love your songs! Your album is so great! I can't wait to see you play live again! :)
Hello! I'm sorry for taking forever to get back to you, I very rarely use Myspace these days. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the review :) I do love your album a lot and can't wait to see you in action again. I'll probably be coming along to see you with Josh Pyke next month - have been meaning to check another show out since I first saw you supporting Jens Lekman last year but I keep missing them! And I liked your little Vietnamese in there too haha, very cute. See you soon!
