About me:
Facing Foster Care in Alaska is a dedicated group of youth and alumni in and from the foster care system who work to advocate for the rights of young people in and from foster care. This statewide organization began in 2003 with support from Casey Family Programs and the Office of Children's Services to advise child welfare professionals about how to adequatly work with children and youth.
"Our mission is to improve the foster care system through sharing our experiences, supporting and educating youth and social services and implementing positive change in society as a whole."
Since thier conception FFCA has helped to pass a law to open up scholarship funds for all children and youth who come into state custody in Alaska. This Program is known as the A.S.P.I.R.E. Program
They have also attended numerous conferences throughout the nation and make connections with youth and alumni from all over the U.S.

If you would like to do a digital story YOU MUST READ BELOW!
We are in the process of preparing for our Digital Storytelling Worshop in August. The August 14-16th Statewide Retreat will only include those people chosen to produce a Digital Story.We have applied for a grant with the Rasmuson Foundation to have the Digital Storytelling workshop. If we get the grant we should have enough funds to produce about 10-12 Digital Stories, meaning there are only about 10-12 spots for people who want to make a story.
In order to make this process a fair one, this is what I need from you.Write out your personal foster care story as it relates to any or all of the topics of Permanency, Culture, and Education. The story must be written in approximately 400 words or less. Email your story to me at facing_fostercare@yahoo.com by July 31st. Any stories that come in later than this date will not be considered. All stories received by July 31st will be considered based on relation to the topics of Permanency, Culture, and Education, not on your ability to write. Be sure to include a current email and phone number, so we can reach you if you are chosen. If we can't get a hold of you then we may give your spot to someone else because there are limited spaces available, so be sure to give a good phone number.
