FITTER is an alternative rock and multi-genre experimental trio born & raised in Los Angeles, CA. The band’s style mixes a dynamic high energy rock with aggressive Latin dance grooves and in-the-pocket backbeats that vary from reggae one drops to heavy rock rumbles. Fronted by Wilfredo Mendez the backbone of the group consists of an infectious talented rhythm section comprised of Edgardo Velasquez & James Ramirez. The three met & bonded as young teenagers even before they formed FITTER during their days at Hollywood High School. Born into families of undocumented immigrants from El Salvador and Guatemala, they mix their North and Central American upbringing to deliver a passionate & high intensity live act.
On stage, the trio delivers an explosive high-energy rock show that dips & turns with percussive rhythms. Wil & Ed’s live instrumental transitions from guitar and bass to congas & timbales draws fans into a dancehall frenzy, all the while maintaining an aggressive edge to the performance & fueling moshpits with their heavier sounds. Wilfredo’s upper mid range vocal melodies can be as seductive as they are angry. His violent vocal outbursts complement his spacey, aggressive, & overdriven guitar progressions. The frequent use of guest musicians allow for added arrangements & instrumentation that include trumpet, keys, samples, & additional Latin percussion, thus bringing in a “secret weapon” element that never fails to garner attention. The trio’s shows are considered to be the “buzz around town” & have attracted support from local, national & international fans & media.
FITTER’s recent independent release “You Don’t Belong Here, but We’ll Use You Anyway” was written as an emotional reaction to US exploitation of immigrant labor & culture. The bands lyrics portray a conscious interplay of personal & political perspectives, all the while maintaining an underground level of comfort and intimacy. The band’s music has been featured on national & international television, radio, & press outlets such as Mun2, The Travel Channel, LATV, La Opinion, KPFK, Kill Radio and others, and is for sale through CD Baby, iTunes, Napster, & other digital media outlets on the internet.
The band is currently in full pre-production for their upcoming sophomore release.
FITTER es un trío de rock alternativo y experimental de múltiples géneros, que fue nacido y creado en Los Angeles, CA. El estilo de la banda mezcla un rock dinámico y energizante con grooves latinos agresivos y ritmos de fondo que varían desde one drops de reggae hasta un estruendo de rock pesado. Liderado por Wilfredo Méndez, la columna vertebral del grupo consiste en una contagiosa y talentosa sección rítmica compuesta por Edgardo Velásquez y James Ramírez. Los tres se conocieron y conectaron de por vida como adolescentes, incluso antes de formar FITTER durante sus días como alumnos en Hollywood High School. Nacidos de familia de inmigrantes indocumentados provenientes de El Salvador y Guatemala, mezclan sus tradiciones de Norte y Centroamérica con una presentación en vivo que es apasionada y de alta intensidad.
Sobre el escenario, el trío tiene una entrega total, con un espectáculo explosivo y de alta energía que gira y da vueltas mediante el uso de ritmos percusivos. Las transiciones instrumentales que hacen Wil y Ed desde la guitarra y bajo a las congas y timbales causan un alboroto en la pista de baile, sin dejar de alimentar a los moshpits con su lado agresivo y de corte más pesado. El rango vocal alto y mediano de las cuerdas vocales de Wilfredo es seductor y a la vez indignado. Sus violentos arranques vocales complementan sus progresiones de guitarra espaciosas, agresivas y distorsionadas. El uso frecuente de músicos invitados le añaden matices a los arreglos y la instrumentación, que incluye el uso de trompetas, teclados, samplers y percusión latina adicional, lo que le da un elemento de “arma secreta” que nunca deja de sorprender a los aficionados. Las presentaciones del trío se han dado a conocer como los mejores shows de rock a lo largo de la ciudad, atrayendo a los medios y fanáticos locales, nacionales e internacionales.
El reciente lanzamiento independiente de FITTER “You Don’t Belong Here, but We’ll Use You Anyway”, fue compuesto como una emotiva reacción a la explotación, la cultura y el trabajo del inmigrante.
Las letras de la banda retratan una mezcla de perspectivas personales y políticas, mientras logran mantener un nivel underground íntimo y de comodidad. La música de la banda ha sido destacada en medios nacionales e internacionales de televisión, radio y prensa como Mun2, The Travel Channel, LATV, La Opinión, Kill Radio y otros, y el disco se distribuye por CD Baby, iTunes, Napster, y otras distribuidoras digitales por el Internet.
La banda se encuentra en el estudio trabajando la pre-producción de su segundo disco.
